Chris Gayle Plans Serious Dancehall Career, Launches ‘Triple Century Records’ Label With New Song
Jamaican cricketer Chris Gayle is planning a serious Dancehall music career with the announcement of a new single and the launch of his ‘Triple Century Records’ label.
What begun as a joke in 2020 with Dancehall artist Stylo G, has turned into a serious venture for Gayle, who is on the tail-end of a career as one of the world’s best batsmen in all three formats of cricket. ‘Triple Century’, which is also the name of Gayle’s Sports Bar in Kingston, is a play on the cricketer’s record-holder status among Donald Bradman, Brian Lara, Virender Sehwag as the only batsmen to hit 300 runs more than once in a Test match.
In early 2020, Stylo G recruited Gayle for a Too Hot Celebrity remix. “I did the first song with Stylo-G and it was a joke I was running,” Gayle told SportsMax.
“I said Stylo-G I should be on that remix and eventually he turned up at my house and said he was ready. I said ‘what, it was a joke,’ Gayle recalled. “So anyway, we went to the movie theatre room (at his house) and he started to show me the ropes and eventually I delivered the music and it turned out to be a hit.”
More artists reached out to him, and he subsequently did We Come Out Fi Party with Tanto Blacks and Grove with UK-based Indian singer Avina Shaw.
Gayle took to Twitter earlier this week to announce his new single, Blessings, which set to be released on February 15, 2021, under the new label. Listen to a preview below.

The Universe Boss promises that there is a lot more to come.
“I have a lot more songs in the pipeline and I did the single Living the, Life so I decided to start my record label Triple Century Records,” he said. “I am going into production and voice myself as well. It’s fun and I am beginning to enjoy it. Actually have a collaboration (and) quite a few songs that haven’t been released as yet.”
Meanwhile, Gayle is not the first sportsman to venture into music in recent times.
Jamaican Marlon Samuels made the jump under the Dancehall moniker ‘Icon’, as did Anguillan Omari Banks to a Reggae career.
Dwayne “DJ” Bravo scored a massive hit with Champion in 2016, which now has a whopping 103 million views on YouTube.
Eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt made his Dancehall debut as a producer with 2019’s Olympe Rosé Riddim, followed by the Immortal Riddim.
His latest single Living The Dream, with his manager Nugent “NJ” Walker was criticized by Dancehall artist Popcaan upon its release. The Unruly deejay implied that NJ, who did most of the vocals, lacked musical acumen, and admonished Bolt, to help ‘some youths wid real musical talent’ because “them dey ya nuff”.
