Much More Coming From Moyann In 2021 As Starlet Readies Diverse EP
Dancehall starlet Moyann has her sights set on much more careerwise in 2021.
The Montegonian singjay, whose real name is Moyann Montique, vaulted onto the scene in 2018 with saucy female empowerment anthems such as Boss Up and A Nuh My Style. Now, with a glittering string of singles to her name, plus nods from Spotify and BBC 1Xtra, the artist is gearing up to drop a full body of work “very, very soon.”
Her newest single, Backseat, is a thumping, sexual banger that leaves no fantasy unturned. “Car back! Watt-not!/ Put me on the fridge and stop chat/ Pon the beach, roof top/ Boy gimi pon the backseat/ Mi naah wait so park under the damn tree/ And give me what mi want,” she demands on the driving bassline.
Racking up over 100K YouTube views since its late January release, Moyann gushed to FAME 95FM about the support for the single and Shane Creative directed clip. “Overall, there’s been great feedback on the song,” she began.
“I really realize that people really love this song. It’s one of the songs that I put out that I haven’t really seen anybody say anything bad about this song so it ah gwaan good. Di whole riddim ah gwaan great,” she said of Chimney Records’ Style a Style Riddim, also featuring Romeich Ent. cohorts Shenseea and Ding Dong.
“Keep streaming it, keep pushing it. I love the love, I love the reactions on it and all of that, I appreciate it all,” said the 21-year-old.
While she may be the gritty, pretty girl in the ring right now, there’s more to Moyann than meets the eye. She told The Star back in 2018 that she was carefully navigating her career as she “does not only want to create sexy, raunchy dancehall type music but clean socially conscious tracks.” Lockdown presented a chance to reset and pivot, and the Position crooner shared a bit of what’s currently on her plate.
“I have a lot of projects. I’m working on my EP to put out later this year so all of that good stuff is coming very, very soon,” Moyann promised. As the recording progresses, she’s still finalizing a release date and as for the project’s title, she’s “still contemplating on what to use.”
Still, she remains eager to showcase her range and depth beyond the image we’ve been seeing these last few years. “The EP is going to be about six songs and it’s going to be different types of music than what I have been putting out before. People are gonna experience a different side of Moyann and the songs that I really wanted to do at the beginning of my career are going to be on the EP.”
She added that fans can expect both international and Dancehall collabs on her overdue debut.
Although Valentine’s Day is already upon us, Moyann was still hyped to answer on whether or not she had any New Years’ resolutions. “Um, I do. I do. I do. I do. I do, yes”, she said with a giggle.
When pressed, she would only say that she “can’t share more at this moment”, so it’s unclear if her plans are just really that personal, or whether it was a subtle hint at wedding bells later down the line.
Moyann just wrapped up her #BackseatChallenge, where a cash prize of $100,000 was awarded to the best, most creative clip using her song as the soundtrack. She joins Jamaican performers Sean Paul and Singy Singy Tarrus Riley capitalizing on social media challenges to promote new music.
