Spice Liberates Riveting ‘Mini-Movie’ For Her Single ‘Frenz’: Watch

Queen of Dancehall and Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star Spice shows off yet another of her many talents with the premiere of the new music video for her previously released single Frenz, which she conceptualized and co-directed with the production house, Xtreme Arts.

The theatrical display presents scenarios of treachery and deceit from the likes of so-called friends. Spice relayed the motivation behind the idea of the project in a release, “I wanted to demonstrate that each time a person betrays me, it is literally a knife or scissors in my back.”

She even dons heavy makeup in the new video with blooded knives and scissors poking from her back to wildly demonstrate the sentiment.

The single, which stories a strong warning from her mother ever since she was a child, also plays in the reoccurring hook of the track, “Mama used to tell me / friends not good for you girl / but I know I will learn the hard way/ smile inna yuh face but chat behind yuh back….” The words give meaning to the premise of the vivid, movie-style visuals, and the impact of which can be felt with the passion she feels towards backstabbers and double-crossing individuals.

The intro shows Spice as a youth being hurled into a scuffle with another little girl, which was intercepted by her mother who turned to scorn her about bad “friends.” In receiving the lessons from her mother, a small TV displays several acts of betrayal.

“Nuh make dem buil yuh weed wid lizard tail and give yuh crap,” Spice sings as visuals show a man falling to his death from smoking a carcass-laced spliff handled by his friend.

Heightening the dramatic effect, Spice draws on the French historical figure, Joan Of Arc who was burned at the stake and portrays herself in the same way, where denigrators tie her to a post and set her aflame.

More scenes show friends shooting friends in the face, friends stealing from friends, and friends poisoning friends. The singer also re-enacts acts of kindness she has extended to others but gets hurt in the end.

Though she condemns friendships extensively in the single, Spice wants people to know that there are good friends out there; you just have to be a little more cognizant of the ones that are true.

“Even though there is betrayal in friendships, relationships, or situations, there is good. The goal of the song is to help people realize who will betray them before the betrayal happens so they can avoid heartache” – Spice

The song is produced by Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor and SupaDups, and was co-written by Angela Hunte, the co-writer of the widely successful, Empire State of Mind by Alicia Keys & Jay-Z.

Spice’s debut album, TEN, is expected to be released soon under VP Records.
