Even as his Seaview Gardens compatriot Shabba Ranks, mourns the death of his mother Constance Christie, Dancehall veteran Bounty Killer says he is still grieving the loss of his own mother Ivy ‘Miss Ivy’ Williams, who died nine years ago, on February 26.

Shabba’s mother whom the As Raw as Ever artist fondly called ‘Mama Christie’, passed away on Tuesday at age 81, after a long battle with an illness, while Miss Ivy died at the Medical Associates Hospital in St Andrew in 2012, after succumbing to her battle with cancer, a few weeks shy of her 72nd birthday.

Yesterday afternoon, Bounty made a series of three posts dedicated to Miss Ivy, including photos of himself with her in church with his bible in hand, a decade ago; images taken during her funeral service, as well as several family photos taken at her graveside, during a memorial staged in her honor on her birthday in 2017, which he described as: “Memorable Moments”.

The Coppershot artist shared a tribute to Miss Ivy written by his sister Marcia, which echoed more of his own sentiments.

“It still feels like it was yesterday.  I can’t believe it has been nine years since you’ve been gone mom.   It’s like a bad dream that I can’t wake up from for the past nine years. Missing you like crazy sleep well my Queen. Sometimes I try not to think about it because it’s an everlasting pain and emptiness deep down inside where no doctor can prescribe a medication for what I’m feeling. I honestly don’t know when my family and I can recover from this but Sleep on Mama,” the tribute said.

On Thursday, the Warlord, in extending support to Shabba, posted a video of Mama Christie, whom he said was a close family friend, paying a spirited and heartfelt tribute to Miss Ivy at her funeral in 2012.

“I’m so overwhelmed right now.   I had to share this with y’all listen to the powerful and touching speech Mama Christy gave at my mom’s funeral years ago. She was a very close friend to my family it’s heartfelt for all of us prayers go out Rest Well Queen,” Bounty noted.

Bounty Killer, who has commonly referred to himself as “Miss Ivy Last son” in some of his songs, has reserved his mother’s birthday as the day on which he and his family members make a pilgrimage to the Meadowrest Memorial Gardens in St Catherine to visit her final resting place.

He told The Star tabloid in 2017 that the trip has become an annual event for them as they feel the need to be close to her on her special day and that March 7 serves as a joint memorial and birthday celebration, where they all “pray and talk and laugh and just remember her”, as well as clean her grave and lay bouquets of flowers on it.

Bounty had also explained that he and his family decided just doing a singular event celebrating his mother’s life, to keep the remembrance intimate and special, as prior to that, in most cases, it turned out being like a party, which was not in keeping with the way he and his family wanted people to remember Miss Ivy.  He also said her graveside was where he felt closest to her.
