Beenie Man Recruits Popcaan, Dre Island For ‘Fun In The Sun’ Visuals: Watch
Veteran Dancehall entertainer Beenie Man has released visuals for the lead single, Fun in the Sun featuring Popcaan and Dre Island, off his upcoming album Simma.
Fun in the Sun, produced by MD Entertainment, sees the King of the Dancehall collaborating with Dre Island and Popcaan on an organic track that is expected to bring positive vibrations to fans. Island handled chorus duties on the track while Popcaan crushed the second verse, leaving Beenie to convey his message of unity, hard work, and collaboration.
“We were in the middle of finalising the songs for the album. After listening, I realised that all that was missing was a song that was pushing positive vibrations, something prayerful and uplifting. That’s when I mentioned it to Moses (Beenie Man), he left the studio, and he came back the next day with the song. He said he wanted Dre Island to help to convey the message we wanted to send,” said Rohan ‘Blue’ Smith, Beenie Man’s Executive Manager.
“I made contact with Dre, set the studio time, he came and we recorded. The same night he came to voice, Popcaan stopped by the studio spontaneously. He felt the vibes and added his part to the song, which made it even more powerful,” he added.
Beenie Man, who teased the single in February 2021, said that the Fun in the Sun was in part a tribute to his late mother.
“To Mama- I know you are listening from above. There’s nothing that I value more than your love. No matter where I am or what I’m doing, your memories will always keep me smiling. Happy Earthday Mama,” he said. The singer had given fans a sneak peek of the video on what would have been his mother’s 64th birthday.
The video, which was directed by Steven Bernard of Cinema Gods, was shot at several locations across the Corporate Area, Kingston.
Originally, Beenie Man had planned to release his nineteenth studio album in 2020, on his birthday, however, a series of incidents, including the passing of his mom, had him push forward the release date.
Simma comes after 2016’s Unstoppable, which tapped out at No. 3 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
