Though far away from home, Dancehall Queen Spice gathered all the ingredients that she needed in Atlanta to create Jamaica’s National dish: Ackee and Saltfish.

The meal is consumed regularly and is usually had for breakfast or brunch. For those who might not know ackee is a savoury fruit, which made its way to the island from West Africa and when ripe, produces a petal-like shape containing three or four yellow pegs.  However, it must be carefully prepared because fresh ackee can be poisonous when not prepared right.

As Spice shared her preparation of the meal on Instagram two days ago, it was clear that she knows what she’s doing.  In the sped-up video clip, she expertly brought the ingredients together.

The Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta (LHHATL) star, whose real name is Grace Hamilton, captioned the video: “When you’re a Jamaican 🇯🇲 and hungry lick yuh . Rux up some Quick Nice clean Ackee and salt fish. #ChefSpice #SpiceKitchen #SpicePot #Ackeeandsaltfish.”

The Tables Turn singer has always prided herself on taking care of her home, including cooking for her family. She cut up her fresh ingredients on a Hamilton cutting board as she teased fans with her preparation. When she was done she proudly added, “And just like that you have the Jamaican National dish right yah suh”

Her fans were quick to applaud her choice of meal and expertise in the kitchen like this fan who exclaimed: “Thiiiiiis is my faaaaaavorite dish laaaaawd I need to learn how to make this.”

Another fan quipped: “When yuh deh a yard yuh can’t see di salt fish plenty ackee. But when yuh deh a foreign plenty salt fish and lil ackee.”

“Yesss we should get more cooking videos from you,” one excited fan declared.

Other fans noticed that she seemed to be using a personalised cutting board while many others called for her to add a cooking segment to her show Spice It Up.

Spice, as usual, has been keeping herself very busy these days and recently announced that she had scored a “major, historic” collaboration with Sean Paul and Shaggy, for her upcoming album, TEN.
