Gold Gad Parodies ‘Rum & Raisin’ Cop In New Song ‘Squaddie’: Watch
Social media can be a nasty place as the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) officer whose viral video made national headlines would know by now. The clip sent tongues wagging in high and low places last week, and it wasn’t long before a Dancehall act made a single about the weekly scoop.
Gold Gad entered the chat with the instantly successful, Squaddie that blew to the top of trending in YouTube Jamaica after its release on Friday. The outlandish deejay who has a popular anti-cop scamming anthem, F— You MOCA , may just have scored his biggest hit at the hands of the police.
Both the track and the music video are in Youtube Jamaica’s Top 10 trending videos and to say he capitalized on the momentum would be an understatement. He might have broken Skillibeng’s record after he tapped the Rocky Point plane crash for the song Coke within days, but Gold Gad’s new video on the bite of the week takes place far from the wet shores of Clarendon.
The popular emcee opted for a parody of the damning viral clip, where a community converges on an ‘ice cream eater’ in the backseat of a vehicle. While we can’t tell whether he has rum and raisin, pistachio, or another flavor, the song’s lyrics confirm that Gold Gad condemns the “fetish”.
“‘Hear me nuh Squaddie yuh betta change up yuh habit/ Bredda yuh nuh sorry/ Ah weh dat yuh put pon yuh lip an den ah seh fi video it,” he spits on the track.
It’s a sentiment heard throughout the scenes, which also includes a few of the voice notes making the rounds about the situation. Gold Gad shares the spotlight with his gold Benz and bling plus a few local talents who add their vibe to the skit.
Popular social media comedian Cuz stars as the keen community lookout who spots the indulgent Squaddie at first and YouTube/TikTok sensation FoodChange steps in to chant his signature tagline, “no eating off the buff”, earning an on-screen forward from the Convo deejay for his comical jabs, “that’s a debate and a illustration about the buff”.
At nearly 200K views and rising, the fans are convinced their deejay must have hidden powers for putting the production together so quickly.
“Dj uh style just unique less than few days u can make a song /video and everything just well put together rate the chune @goldgadmusic bredda uh to craven 😂😂😂🔥🔥,” wrote one Youtube fan while another wrote, “Rayyy squaddie tek ova di media all song a mek off a him..😂😂
Still, others shed light on the gravity of the matter, now involving a full JCF investigation, “Even the youth weh act as the squaddie reputation mash up, him cyah touch road again😂😂”.
