Dancehall artist Delomar sought to remind the current administration that COVID-19 wasn’t the only thing happening in Jamaica, as he noted that many citizens were finding it difficult to meet their basic needs.

Delomar made the statement as he lashed out at Prime Minister Andrew Holness in an over five-minute-long video that has been making the rounds on social media platforms.

“Yes, good day Mr. Andrew Holness. A Delomar this, yuh zimi, and me a send da message yah to you personally, yuh zimi. Now, me nuh know if you understand wah gwan inna the streets because you deh behind a desk and you just a sign papers and you just do your duties as a Prime Minister; but one of the biggest duty what you have, zeen, why we vote for you, is so that you can look out for poor people,” began Delomar in his lengthy rant, which sought to raise awareness about the plight of Jamaicans in impoverished communities.

“You talk about COVID and you talk about protecting the people, zeen but what you also have to understand, if you a seh you a protect the people, then wah you feel like a COVID alone a keep, sufferation a keep. Hungry a keep to and it affect people more than COVID,” added a clearly upset Delomar.

Delomar went on to explain that the numerous videos being circulated with people disobeying the COVID-19 protocols, citing in particular one video in which a man lashed out at the police, was as a result of the distressed state that the nation’s citizens are in.

He said the hostility directed towards the police was unfair, but because they were messengers of the state, and citizens can’t get to speak to the PM directly, they have unloaded their misplaced anger on the security forces.

According to Delomar, most Jamaicans don’t think that they are a priority for the government, instead he notes that when the Prime Minister takes actions like lockdowns without alternatives as to how people can earn an income, it further marginalizes the poor whose livelihoods rely heavily on the physical economy.

“At the end of the day, when you a shut down the whole place, and when you shut down the place you don’t have no other plan b so the people dem can still eat food,” said Delomar.

“Bredda you haffi understand the people dem seen, you a we Prime Minister because we think seh you can do a good job for the country because you give we a good speech, zeen. And now you fi tek dat same speech and put into play and you not doing that brother,” added Delomar.

Delomar revealed in the lengthy video that he is a Jamaica Labour Party supporter, added that he is disappointed with the current administration’s performance.
