Michael Jackson’s Earth Song is the tune that inspired Jamaican reggae artist Augustus Rasta to write his single Cry Help. According to Augustus Rasta he even “channeled” the king of pop in his delivery of the lyrics which flowed over a beat built by Teabell ‘Sling Ting’ Smith.

The recording artist, who has been around the business since 1997, shared that he is a huge fan of the late pop star and believes that following Jackson’s musical style, will appeal to his growing fan base.

Describing Jackson as a man who was always calling attention to injustice and inequality, Augustus Rasta said paying homage to Jackson through his Cry Help single was a “no brainer”.

“Paying homage to the King of Pop through Cry Help was a no brainer because it also calls out for change. I just hope that Jamaicans will see what is happening here as well with their own eyes,” said Augustus.

Cry Help, produced by Hierarchy Record was released last year shortly after Jamaica recorded its first COVID-19 case, however, the artiste told DancehallMag that the single still has relevance, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to cripple the country.

“What makes this song relevant today is because I grew up feeling the pinch of the massive power struggle in Jamaica and around the world, since this wicked pandemic I really thought it would bring the Jamaicans together but look at what is happening,” Augustus said.

“The Government isn’t dealing with the Jamaican people properly throughout this Pandemic and are only catering to the rich so we have to cry out for justice and equality and I want my fans to see that I’m committed to this cause,” he added.

Augustus Rasta is currently working on his Life Journey album, which has a total of 9 tracks produced by Hugh Morgan and Omar Shamario Cox for Hierarchy Records.
