Bounty Killer Shows Support To Mavado After Mother’s Death, Despite Longstanding Feud
Legendary Dancehall deejay Bounty Killer took to social media to convey condolences to fellow artist Mavado, regarding the loss of his mother. The tone of the ‘Grung Gaad’ was solemn throughout the statement that he released to express sadness over the passing of Mavado’s mother Elizabeth Gordon, who was affectionately known as ‘Ms. Pinny.’
The Warlord posted “Jah know star, I just want to send my deepest sympathy and condolences to @mavadogully and his family on the passing of his mom, despite our situation, but I know the void and emptiness cause by the loss of a mom, it’s a very sad street that we all have to trod one day, prayers goes out stay strong” to his Instagram account.
The two deejays share a storied past, of high highs and very low lows.
What once commenced as a mentor-mentee relationship dissipated into unflattering verbal conflicts, near-physical altercations before eventually descending into longstanding malice and, in more recent times, civility.
Little less than a year ago, Bounty Killer posted a photograph of Mavado and Vybz Kartel with an accompanying caption that read: “transformation mondays who dem yute ya ppl? So we transform ghetto people pickney from nutten to sup’m tag dem it’s a mighty long way a far we fawud from give thanks.”
That post was in great contrast to their falling out, but within the vein of better times. Bounty Killer and Mavado had worked together closely and harmoniously in the initial stages of the latter’s career; as comrades within the ‘Warlord’-founded The Alliance movement, which turned out to be arguably one of Dancehall music’s most recognizable and successful internships.
The musical outfit was a conglomerate chocked full of the who’s who of rising stars on the local entertainment industry circuit in Jamaica. The Alliance, at one time, boasted the unprecedented lyrical talents of artists such as Busy Signal, Wayne Marshall, Aidonia, and Vybz Kartel, as well as the Serani-helmed production entity, Daseca.
But, Bounty Killer, who suffered the loss of his mother Ms. Ivy in 2012, expressed an understanding of the sorrow which lingers after the loss of a matriarch.
Mavado – who has been a resident of Florida for several years – lamented on social media that he had lost his “best friend” and was now in a state of desolation.
“I’m all alone, can’t trust no one, but I could always put my life in your hands, from I was A kid it was always me and you walking up and down Constant Spring road,” the mourning deejay shared on his Instagram page, adding “my everything, Jah know I just don’t know what to say mama.”
A long list of fellow artists – based both locally and internationally – and a slew of fans have posted words of comfort to Mavado’s social media accounts.
The cause of Ms. Pinny’s death remains unknown.
