Popcaan Reaches Out To Mavado, Extends Condolences On Mom’s Loss
Dancehall star Popcaan has put aside differences with Mavado to extend his condolences on the loss of the Gully Gad’s mother.
Like Bounty Killer, who also sent condolences amid his own differences with Mavado, the news must have hit Popcaan personally since he shares a very close relationship with his own mother, Miss Rhona.
In his Instagram Stories today Popacan wrote, “Keep yo meds firm up same way singer, keep fighting the fight, condolences to you and your family, tough times for everybody, stay up!” He added, “Unruly wish bad on no one,” as he tagged the Gully Gad.
Mavado’s mother, Elizabeth ‘Ms. Pinny’ Gordon, died suddenly at a hospital in Kingston last week. It’s been an extremely difficult time for the Father God singer who also is awaiting the sentencing of his son Dantay Brooks on March 19 after the teen was convicted for murder earlier this year.
It’s no secret that the two have been at odds all the way back to Popcaan’s early days as a Portmore Empire affiliate under Vybz Kartel.
Things were cool when they both had verses on Snoop Dogg’s Lighter’s Up in 2013, and Mavado even joined Popcaan on the Everything Nice remix in 2014.
By 2016, they were openly exchanging diss tracks, which included Born Ready, Dem Dead A Ready, RPG, Funeral, Dutty Dread, Dem Run Een, and We Still A Win.
In September last year, Popcaan appeared on Ebro In The Morning, following the release of his successful album, FIXTAPE , where he called Mavado “irrelevant” but he did note that their relationship was not beyond repair.
“Of course it can, but I mean it has to start from somewhere … I don’t know about everybody enuh but wid me, I’m always willing to make the best move for the music and for the culture … I will put my ego aside and everything and do it for the culture,” he said at the time.
Things even escalated to a point last year when Popcaan’s OVO Boss, Drake also took aim at Mavado following the release of FIXTAPE. Mavado responded with the diss track Enemy Line along with a stern Instagram warning.
Those feelings seem to have dissipated in the wake of Mavado’s monumental loss and Popcaan stepped up to officially bury the hatchet with his regards.
