The 26-year-old, whose real name is Matthew Smith, was rushed to hospital on June 28, 2020 following a gun attack by unknown assailants in Struie district, Westmoreland.
A woman, identified as his girlfriend, 28-year-old Sashalee Blackwood was killed in the incident.
King spent several weeks in medical facilities around the island, hastily transferring at one point due to security concerns, and underwent critical surgical procedures to repair the damage done by his attackers.
His team had also directly denounced rumors that King was paralyzed after he completed one surgery in July.
Eager to resume studio work, Rygin has droppped singles such as Larger Than Life, Glu, Mission, No Emotion, and Obligated since being discharged from the hospital.
In December, amid a renewed focus on music, Rygin King announced that his new album, tentatively called “Trap Dancehall” was still on the cards. “Working on the album #trapking #oneking,” he said, alluding to the Dancehall subgenre that has brought him much of his break-out success.
That success kicked off when he stole the show at Reggae Sumfest in 2018. Since then, he has become best known for hits like How Mi Grow, Tuff, Things Go Change, and Me, Myself & I.
