Bounty Killer Wants Ports Closed As Jamaicans Face Stricter Lockdown Measures
Dancehall icon Bounty Killer is demanding that the Government of Jamaica immediately close all of its ports, as a COVID-19 containment measure, similar to the one imposed in early 2020.
His comments came in response to a video posted on Instagram by Zip FM, of Prime Minister Andrew Holness yesterday, in which he outlined new COVID-19 suppression measures, including a lockdown of the country for three weekends in a row.

But Dancehall’s One General is insisting that the imposition of sporadic islandwide curfews will, as, usual, amount to naught, as Jamaica’s Achilles heel remains at the island’s entry points.
“Curfew not helping or curbing Covid. Close di Bloodclaath ports simple. Unuh putting unuh livelihood over the ppl lives simple. Bcuz letting in Covid then lock it down is not a cure lock it out for a few months and then lets fights what’s here is the only way to try curb or reduce the cases done talk,” Bounty wrote in his reply.
Yesterday Prime Minister Andrew Holness, while speaking at a Jamaica House press conference, announced three weekends of lockdowns among new COVID containment measures set to start taking effect tomorrow.
Holness said there will also be expanded curfews for the Easter season.
The weekend lockdowns will run from noon on Saturdays to Mondays at 5 a.m until April 12.
In addition he said there will be no face-to-face schooling until April 13 and no funerals will be allowed. Burials will, however, be permitted as of March 23, Monday to Friday between the hours of 9 am and 4:00pm, with the gathering limit remaining at 10 people, while wedding attendees will be cut from 25 to 15 persons.
When kay.s.s86 pointed out to Bounty about the behavior of citizens in contributing to the COVID spread, including their failure to adhere to COVID-prevention protocols and attending illegal parties, the Seaview Gardens native concurred, but insisted that he wanted the ports to be shut down temporarily to curtail the spread of the infection.
“@kay.s.s86 We must all follow the protocols for sure, but curfew after business transactions huge gatherings and interactions during the days makes no sense,” Bounty noted.
“Then since the ports are open and ppl coming in daily with unknown symptoms also not quarantining bcuz they the system not monitoring the persons to be quarantined properly; so tell me what’s the benefit of curfew at nights only to prevent nightly entertainment gatherings which is understandable and ok with me but no other purpose I see it’s not helping Covid though,” he added.
A while later Bounty ripped into the people who have been patronizing illegal parties, which the Ministry of Health has fingered as being super-spreaders of the disease.
“The ppl dem fi go build and stop them f_ckery to, with the cheap idiot party gatherings them also. Protocols is to be followed or penalties with be stricter. Simple,” he warned.
The outraged Dancehall superstar would not accept that Jamaica’s tourism-dependent economy had to rely on the ports to be kept open to allow visitors in. He stood his ground after 18disha noted that while closing the posts was “exactly what he needs to do, but tourist is part of our economy” and that “our dollars would just go up that means everything goes up as well,we ago suffer big time in this”.
“What’s more important our livelihood or our lives? It all came down to what means more important at this moment,” the Warlord declared.
He also expressed agreement with sweetbackwillie who noted that he was on the right track, as closing the ports had been an effective tactic for the Cayman Islands.
“@grunggaadzilla Cayman Island followed the same protocol in 2020 and in a results, no cases are reported from since, the government are lacking the the proper procedure, closing the port and dealing with the current conditions are more important than what he’s implementing right now,” he wrote.
“@sweetbackwillie Closing ports shows way more results than curfews worldwide simple,” Bounty responded.
