Sean Paul Says Red Rat Was The First Artist To Take Him On Tour
Dancehall superstar Sean Paul says fellow compatriot Red Rat was the first artist to bring him on tour. This, the Temperature singer revealed during an impromptu Instagram Live earlier today, in which he invited Red Rat to join, so he could give him his flowers.
The two artists then engaged in a positive conversation on their history of sharing the stage on a European tour.
Red Rat, in recalling the era emphasized that in those days artists would share their space and ideas with other artists to make their craft better. Something he says is now missing from the newcomers.
While praising the new Dancehall movements he also said they should find a name for their genre as it is not Dancehall.
It was at this point that Sean Paul said he views it differently and what the young artists are doing is just a different flavor of Dancehall. Sean said there should be no name change and artists should continue to perform and make music under the flag of Dancehall.
He gave the example of his 2020 hit Boasty with Wiley, Stefflon Don, and British actor and singer Idris Elba as an example of the different flavors of Dancehall that may be seen as different but is simply Dancehall.
He further gave props to the earlier dancehall producers such as Steelie and Cleavy, Bobby Digital, and Dave Kelly.
“Them man them set certain foundation in the music, where we seem to kinda drift from a likkle bit,” he said. “But you done know, dem sound deh go round in circle, so me deh ya a bring it back with the Live N Livin.”
Sean Paul’s latest album Live N Livin is now available on all streaming platforms.
