Mr. Vegas Takes Aim At Ricky Trooper For Demanding Church Reopening
In the wake of veteran Dancehall music selector Ricky Trooper’s demands for Prime Minister Andrew Holness to relax the provisions of the Disaster Risk Management Act, to allow Christians to attend church services, international recording star Mr. Vegas has labelled the sound man a “fool”.
According to Vegas, most of the people who make up the congregations of Jamaica’s churches are elderly and are the ones most predisposed to the ravages of the COVID-19 virus.
“Some people waan guh church, but people weh predominantly guh church a olda people dem. Di olda people dem a turn up a di hospital becaw dem a di most susceptible to di virus dan di younger people. Suh common sense is: worship a yuh yard,” Vegas stated in a video which he posted on his Instagram page.
The Head High singer who launched a stinging verbal assault on Trooper in September 2019, after the selector cast aspersions about his sexual proclivities in an Instagram rant, appeared to be still seething from that incident as he urged Jamaicans to not listen to the former Kilimanjaro frontman.
“Common sense is: God still a hear yuh. Common sense is: God seh him help those who help demself. So oonu nuh haffi a listen to fool-fool Ricky Trooper a tell di Prime Minister fi open church an get emotional bout it. Him naw no sense,” Vegas declared.
“If yuh listen to somebaddy a tell yuh seh: ‘oh, di virus naw spike inna di church’, is rubbish. Because church people guh market; church people guh teck bus; church people guh place where odda people may have it. Is not like oonu goin live inna di church,” Vegas continued.
In further arguing his points and highlighting what he deemed to be the senselessness of Trooper’s demands, Vegas said the Sound Trooper owner ought to use his time to come up with solutions and promote them on his platform, instead of conjuring up silly ideas.
“Suh if di Prime Minister seh: ‘wear oonu mask an stay home during dis time’, mi nuh tink seh dat a nuh suppm weh wi caan comprehend. Wi caan keep pointing finger. Is like wi a seh: ‘yow di Prime Minister nuh bade suh wi naw bade.’ Yuh a guh stink!” he exclaimed.
“Wi caan a seh becaw a dem get pay, a dem mus come up with the solutions… just like how yuh put a video out deh fi reach people and criticize di government an all a dem tings dere, is suh you can meck a (sensible) video an di people dem wi listen to yuh,” he added.
Three days ago Ricky Trooper posted a video on his Instagram page where he urged the Government to reopen the churches as prayer and worship was Jamaica’s key antidote to crime.
“Crime and violence deh pon di loose an oonu caan control crime weh everybaddy know, crime outta hand an oonu naw no solution fi crime. But yuh know wha, balance Jamaica an a mek Jamaica survive, eh? A di prayer dem from wi granny, wi madda, yuh know; wi sista dem… an poor people, caw no care wha nuh, no how evil a man is, there comes a time when everybaddy call upon God,” Trooper had said.
The selector said that by shutting down the country for three consecutive weekends, especially during Easter the Government was “killing of the old people” by making them unable to attend church to “praise dem God”, declaring as well, that the PM should not “ramp wid God”.
“When yuh lock dung di church dem Good Friday and Easter Sunday, no church? Come on man. Oonu guh suh boom an oonu seh social distancing a church, an di people dem guh sun boom, an a dweet; wi nuh hear no spike gwaan a church,” Trooper argued.
“Di one spike did gwaan inna di first half wid one certain church dung a Od Harbour side and from dat yuh tell di church dem di protocol dem weh fi hol… Mi nuh know bout oonu enuh, but mi is a God-fearing yute and Jamaica is a God fearing place. Yuh si God, a God a balance Jamaica. Di amount a wickedness weh deh a Jamaica a gwaan from high places to low places, di blessin weh Jah bestowed on us a keep us. But when time oonu star touch di church, wi inna problem,” he declared.
In his several minutes-long rant, Trooper said the old praying Christians were the ones who were keeping destruction from besetting Jamaica, and issued a warning to the PM.
“Fi di longest time wi nuh get a disaster enuh. But one a guh come an it a guh serious… God a guh beat wi dung yah. God a guh beat wi caw di prayers from di people dem, nuh care how a set a people sinful, when dem guh pon dem knee and dem pray to God, God forgive,” he said.
“Free up di church dem Mr. Prime Minista. Neva stop di people dem from praise dem God. Anytime yuh try turn people away from God, disaster ever happen. An it a guh ketch wi. An it a guh worse pon you too, caw yu a di Prime Minister,” he predicted.
He also said he has seen where, because worship had been sidelined, God had already started punishing the Andrew Holness-led administration.
“Yuh nuh si how long yuh naw get no break? It come like seh crime a kill yuh administration; COVID a kill yuh administration; an neva one day mi neva hear yuh seh carry di whole Labour Party and di whole PNP party guh a church guh have one serious church service fi di country. .. caw it come like oonu nuh love God. An mi naw point no finger, but free up di church dem,” he demanded.
“Same why like how oonu caan inna Parliament an oonu space out oonuself, seen, dem duh dat a church. Suh how oonu can do it inna Parliament and di church people dem caan dweet? People can’t even bury dem dead neither. Mortar can mi fi 30 minutes and dem ting deh?” Trooper questioned.
