Ganggoolie Recovering From Broken Leg In Car Accident That Killed Soldier In Old Harbour

Dancehall artist Ganggoolie is now recuperating in hospital after he suffered a broken leg in a serious car accident in Old Harbour, St. Catherine. The accident, which occurred last Wednesday, claimed the life of a Jamaica Defence Force soldier.

Ganggoolie, whose real name is Marlon Lawrence, recalled the frantic moments before the horrific accident.

“I had been at the studio, and I was driving from Old Harbour in the direction of Spanish Town and when I reached Gutters and I saw a car racing towards me, it was overtaking four cars, all I could do was slow down and then mi see the vehicle flip and start spin fast ah come towards me, so mi swing from it, so I didn’t get the full impact, and mi hear bam like a bomb drop,” Ganggoolie recounted.

“I had on my seatbelt and mi brace miself and after the impact, mi feel mi leg and know say mi leg bruk.”

The Muscle Wine deejay sustained a major fracture to his right thigh as a result of the accident, and he called the relevant authorities to make a report.

“After the accident, mi see people ah gather and I asked them to help me out the vehicle but everybody busy ah video me, so mi just build and easy. Mi see dem no in a no helping thing with me cause the first thing, if they had wanted to help, they would take me out the vehicle first. Dem behaviour mean that if the vehicle did ever ketch fire, they would have just run left me to die inna the vehicle.   People all come ah search up mi vehicle, bredda, mi haffi run dem outta mi vehicle before the fireman dem tek me out and put mi inna the ambulance,” he recalled.

The deejay’s Honda Ridgeline van was totalled in the accident. He has been hospitalized since last Wednesday.

“It is not a bad break, I still have mobility in my toes. I have more x rays to do and I have to see the bone specialist who will have to talk to me before I leave. I feel lucky to be alive, nuff people go through less and dead. The man who crashed into my vehicle died on the spot, so I have to give thanks,” he said.

He offered condolences to the family of the soldier who reportedly died in the accident.

“Condolences to his family and friends, but I want motorists be more mindful of people out there, secure your life and people life as well. Speeding kills, I would be an innocent entertainer who just dead like that if I hadn’t been lucky. Big up the Fire Brigade and the Portmore ambulance who picked me that night, big up the Almighty who guide and protect me, and mama prayer always up,” he said.

The artist, who is known for penning tracks based off viral situations, has carved out a decent career as an entertainer with songs such as Donkey Kick, Muscle Wine, and Boom It Up featuring Qualitee, and Wow featuring Candy.

He is now promoting a new single, Nah Fe Like Me.
