Shenseea Gets Candid About Absentee Father, Says Mother’s Death Really Changed Her
Dancehall star Shenseea spoke candidly about how things have changed since her mother’s death, and sought to clear up some details about her father whom she has never met.
The Blessed singer, 24, answered several fan questions in an Instagram Q&A on Wednesday, and she was asked why she had not been “as interactive” with fans on the platform over the last few months. The singer replied: “Its crazy that you notice, I’d hoped it wouldn’t be that much of a big deal.”
“My mom’s death really changed me,” she explained. “Less talkative, more reserved. I hope it won’t be like this forever but at the moment I can’t help it.” She added, “Time is master and I assure you it has[n’t] changed my love for y’all; it has grown seeing the support and comfort you give in my hardest of times.”
Shenseea‘s mother, Castilyn Eleanor Williams, passed away suddenly in June 2020.
Responding to another question about grief, she said: “Everyone grieves differently. For me, I rather do everything that’ll help to take my mind off my loss and be surrounded by people who won’t constantly make me remember tragedy.”
“I’ve only felt depressed once in my life,” she wrote in another answer. “I called a Pastor we prayed alot and I felt better each time.” One Instagram fan said they “really admire how strong you are,” to which Shenseea responded, “Too strong, maybe. Sh-t got me emotionless atp.”
When the question about her father came up, the singer emphasized that she wanted to clear up any notions about him for “some bright and feisty people” who previously made “some nasty remarks.” Shenseea revealed that she has never met her dad, who had a “good relationship” with her mom, but left when she was six months pregnant.
“I asked questions and the response was that my Korean father was wealthy and in a gang, and because of that, he had to travel,” she previously told the STAR tabloid.
In the Q&A, she explained that she has no clue whether he was dead or alive or whether he had returned to Jamaica since her family had moved from St. Elizabeth to Kingston.
But, in 2018, she was open to a reunion. “It’s not a must [to meet him] but I know I would not be in tears. We could find out about each other. I would not shun him. Everything I’ve been through [including not having a father] really made me the person I am and I love who I am, although I have to work on things like forgiving people,” she told the STAR.

Now poised for international stardom as one of the most recognizable Dancehall artists, it hasn’t been easy for the single mom. Her tenacity is sustained not only by her work ethic but also by her son Raj. When asked about her reaction to finding out that she was pregnant with him at the age of 19, she responded: “I was happy, 19 years old and I was happy.” She continued, “The love for my son is unmatched and unexplainable. Don’t be like me guys, but I was happy and nervous at the same time.”
“The only sacrifice I have to make is not being by him while touring,” she said on being a mother and a musician at the same time. “Otherwise, I love my son and I love my career. So I just do what needs to be done all the time and make the time for both!”
She added that the most important life lesson she wanted to teach Raj was: “I need him to be modest and respectful regardless of a person’s status.
Fans were also curious about whether Shenseea was currently in a relationship and whether she has ever been in love. The Bad Alone singer dropped a firm “NO” on both questions.
