Popcaan Shares Rare Photos With Grandma On Her 77th Birthday
While Popcaan’s mom Miss Rhona has been frequently featured in the Dancehall star’s Instagram shares, many fans have never had the opportunity to see the woman he once said “grow me”, until yesterday when he shared never-before-seen photos of his grandmother online.
In what was Grandma’s 77th birthday celebration, Popcaan posted photos with the septuagenarian by her pre-blown candled cake, having laughs as they shared a candid moment. In one photo, Popcaan appears to be showing her how to make his ‘unruly’ sign.
“As long as i can make you smile I’m good fa real.❤️❤️❤️🙏🏿,” he captioned the IG share.
Poppy’s sister Unruly Squid couldn’t help but to join in and comment on the touching post, saying, “My whole heart I love you grandma sooooo much ❤❤❤❤ happy birthday my love ❤❤❤” and of course, his followers just loved seeing granny holding up the ‘unruly’ gesture.
This might be the first time Popcaan has actually shown the world the matriarch of his family but it’s not the first time that he has mentioned her. Last year he also acknowledged her earth strong with a traditional “boat” style cook-up in her backyard.
“Quarantout!!! grandma bday so me affi pull up❤️” he wrote on a video dated March 31, which saw him making a huge pot of pumpkin soup outside.
We all know Poppy loves to cook; he has the ‘unruly chef hat’ to prove it. And it’s no wonder because it seems to be the key to granny’s heart. He mentioned her again in another post made last November.
“Me make some a the right set a Sunday dinner for my grandparents, “😬😬 a them grow me!!!!!” he tagged that one to display a decadent spread of fried chicken, stewed oxtail, fried fish, curried chicken and rice & peas that he had prepared.
Popcaan was raised by his grandmother who lives in the country and like his mom she’s also a preacher. He grew up in St. Thomas Jamaica and performed for a crowd the very first time by singing in the church’s choir.
We can probably thank her for the artist he is today, though we know how unruly he can get in his music, Popcaan has also shown fans the more spiritual side of his persona and just how much family means to him.
The titles of songs like We Pray, Jah Love, Firm And Strong, Bank & God, and Family certainly speak for themselves. Like his mom is, we can assume grandma too is especially proud of her grandson with his recent single God Is Love with the legendary Beres Hammond.
Popcaan has a new single out now, Jungle Justice (Part Twice), a follow-up to his 2017 track Jungle Justice. The song released 4 days ago as a call to action to end violence against women and particularly a cry for justice for Khanice Jackson, the young accounting clerk that went missing last Wednesday, March 24, and who was later reported to have been raped and murdered.
