Papa San’s Son BEAM Brings Jamaican Vibe To Justin Bieber’s ‘Freedom.’ EP
Recording artist and music producer BEAM, who is the son of legendary Dancehall deejay and gospel Reggae singer Papa San, is reveling in the success of his Freedom track, a gospel collab with Canadian pop star Justin Bieber, which was released on Easter Sunday, April 4.
Not only is Freedom, which was co-written by the Kingston-born BEAM, the lead single, but it is also the title track for Bieber’s new six-track gospel “Freedom.” EP.
So far the album charted at number two on iTunes in the US.
It has also charted in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, Australia, and Brazil.
The song, which is highly influenced by the Jamaican, makes references to Jamaican Easter celebrations and cuisine with lyrics mentioning “Good Friday, fish and bammy” and eating “Easter Sunday bun and cheese”.
It also sees Bieber in his verse, attempting to use Patois, singing:

On Tuesday, BEAM, whose real name is Tyshane Thompson, gave praises to God for his breakthrough, for his second collab with Bieber, his first being Love You Different, which appears on the pop star’s album titled Justice which was released only two weeks before, and which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
In an Instagram post, the 26-year-old wrote “I wanna thank God first. Your love does not match and your timing is perfect.”

BEAM also featured on Popcaan and Canadian rapper Preme’s collaborative Link Up EP, on the track Love Cost Too Much , a song about a gold-digging woman whom they firmly rebuke for being only interested in the glitz and the glamour associated with the superstar lifestyle.
The Jamaican has also produced music for acts such as 2 Chainz, Yo Gotti and Lecrae.
