Usain Bolt Recruits Vybz Kartel, TeeJay, Charly Black & More For ‘Clockwork’ Riddim
Former Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt has teased his next Dancehall production, the Clockwork Riddim, which has a nostalgic early 2000s Dancehall beat and from all indications will be nothing to scoff at.
Bolt, 34, has recruited the likes of Vybz Kartel, Charly Black, Shaniel Muir, TeeJay, Christopher Martin and ZJ Liquid to voice the new Dancehall jugglin’, which is set for release this Friday. He made the revelation two days ago on his Instagram page and so far the conclusion from Dancehall fans, is that his A-Team will deliver this time.
“Dancehall! #ClockWorkRiddim. 09.04.21,” Bolt posted on his IG page on Monday.
ZJ Liquid responded with the word: “Ready”, Shaneil Muir responded with flame icons, while party Animal artist, Charly Black let out a series of fiery icons, noting in full caps: “Dancehall in a dem bumbo claaat”.
The riddim comes three months after his Living the Dream single, a collaboration with his manager NJ, was rubbished by Popcaan. The Unruly Boss, having listened to an excerpt which the sprinter had shared on Instagram, implied that NJ, who did most of the vocals, lacked musical acumen. Popcaan had also admonished Bolt to help ‘some youth wid real musical talent’ because “them dey ya nuff”.
Clockwork, which also features tracks by Bibi, NJ, Ajji and Lia cribe, also comes a month after the track legend was rebuked by several fans following the release of his Say Less music video. At the time, many fans contended that the song and video only served as confirmation that Popcaan’s comments, in January, were on point.
Weeks after Popcaan made his uncomplimentary comments, Bolt had insisted in an interview on Zip 103 FM, that his music career is no joke, and this will be proven when he releases his “upcoming EP”, supposedly Clockwork, which would set the stage for him to become an international Dancehall superstar.
In the Zip FM interview, the Trelawny native said his world domination musical quest would be slow and steady, similar to his ascension in track and field where he, overtime, became a global sprinting superpower.
“We’re just trying to get a foothold, trying to make people understand that we’re not just here joking around. We’re serious about the music so we’re just going to take our time, just like in track and field, it’s all about work and dedicating and just taking our time,” the William Knibb Memorial High School old boy said.
“We don’t want to rush into anything, make any mistakes, so we gonna take our time. We will get there. We believe in ourselves, and we believe in the product that we’re putting out there,” he had said.
Bolt released the Olympe Rose riddim in the summer of 2019 featuring Christopher Martin, Ding Dong, Munga Honorable, Dexta Daps, and retired international footballer Ricardo ‘Bibi’ Gardner.
It was followed by the Immortal riddim later that year which had featured Vybz Kartel, Masicka, Ding Dong, Demarco, Chris ‘Zuzu’ Martin and Munga Honorable.
