Beenie Man Shows Off His Huge Trophy And Awards Collection — Watch Video
There’s a reason why Beenie Man is also referred to as the King of the Dancehall.
The veteran entertainer, 47, showed off some of his accolades on his Instagram Story today, by giving fans a little sneak peek at his impressive trophy and awards collection.
Standing in front of a large cabinet that housed the sizable collection, Beenie first showed off the largest item, a DJ Of The Year Award. “Not to get crazy but this is one of the biggest DJ of the year trophy mi ever get in my life,” he said.
The Who Am I singer then showed fans some of his prized possessions including Best Performance for Spectrum in 1995 and 1996 and a MOBO award. The award cabinet dates back many years and he remarked, “Some awards weh some artiste nuh know, dem will never see again.”
But there appeared to be one thing missing.
His single Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, which he won in 2001 for the Art and Life (2000) album, wasn’t seen in the collection at the time of filming, but it did make an appearance during an interview with YouTuber Teach Dem last year.
Unlike the awards safely housed in the cabinet, the base of Beenie’s Grammy Gramophone appeared to be scuffed and scraped, which prompted Teach to say, “my youth, tek care of yuh Grammy, bredda.”
“No man, doan do mi dat,” Beenie responded. “Mi na tell yuh wa happen to my Grammy? Mi Grammy ah 20-year-old. Ah Granny it ah turn now. So right now mi wan ah next one fi put side ah it. Balance it. Becah look out fi Simma .”
Medallions are awarded to Grammy nominees and Beenie Man‘s three medals for his three nominations were also on display.
Dancehall fans have been eagerly awaiting his nineteenth studio album Simma, which is expected this year and will feature appearances from Popcaan, Dre Island, Sean Paul, Shaggy, Bounty Killer, Dexta Daps, HoodCelebrityy, and Major Lazer.
In the lead up to the album’s release and since he finally got himself a smartphone, the Dude singer has been connecting with his fans in various new ways.
