Dancehall Stars Show Support To St Vincent After La Soufriere Volcano Erupts
Several Dancehall entertainers have been offering prayers to the people of St Vincent after the island’s volcano erupted twice on Friday. Bounty Killer and Tarrus Riley were amongst the first to publicly declare their empathy for those affected by the explosions.
St. Vincent Soca singer Skinny Fabulous sought prayers for the people in the southern Caribbean after the eruption was confirmed. On Instagram, Skinny, “Happening now… the volcano is erupting AGAIN. The 2nd explosive eruption has occurred.”
The ash cloud from the eruptions rose to more than 20,000 feet high, with most of the burning hot smoke heading into the Atlantic Ocean.
Skinny Fabulous has been using his platform to inform the public of ways they can help.
In a video clip yesterday, he noted: “its beyond terrifying in the north of the island. I am in the south and I’m hearing the rumbles.”

Similar words came from Tarrus Riley as he shared a fitting snippet of his song Corner with Masicka with the caption, “Prayers Up for St.Vincent, Prayers Up for Dmx n Family, Sincere condolences to everyone who lost Sum 1, Prayers Up for everyone in the World in these Ruff Times…Jah is in our….CORNER…Guidance”.
Wayne Wonder and Razor B also chimed in on Singy Singy’s post and expressed their solidarity with the cause.
Vybz Kartel lent his voice to the cause in an Instagram post. “Jamaica mek we send some love and some well wishes to the strong people of st vincent and the grenadines!!!! Stay safe mi people. This too will pass,” the incarcerated artist’s verified Instagram account wrote.
Popcaan implored others to help with the relief efforts in a repost captioned, “Helping hands needed.”
Prime Minister of St Vincent, Ralph Gonsalves made the official declaration for people living in the red zone to evacuate two days ago.
The volcanic eruption forced thousands to evacuate the island. Many managed to leave before the explosions via ferries to cruise ships and safer parts of the island.
But Skinny stayed behind to assist with the humanitarian effort supporting shelters on the island.

So far, Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness and national leaders from Trinidad and Venezuela have all offered their help to St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Before Friday’s explosion in December, there were reports of the volcano spewing steam and smoke. To date, La Soufriere has erupted five times. Before April 9 the last explosive eruption was recorded three decades earlier in 1979.
