Khago In Control
Dancehall artist Khago recently won over USD$700,000 in a counter-lawsuit against producer Kemar “Flava” McGregor in a South Florida court. The ever outspoken deejay has since been expressing the need for artists to be more in control of their artistic output.
In this interview, Khago confessed to never being a rasta and his motivation for making music now.

Khago, Jamaica wants to know where you’ve been?
Just deh a puppa, just a gwan put in some work and a brand new self and take full control of we career.
What made you decide to take control of your career in a time when many artists are not taking control of their career?
Cause maybe nuh baddi nah fight them so dem comfortable. When your back up ‘gainst the wall you have to figure it out but we figure it out yuh nuh.
So you used all the things you went through as lessons for you to become a better person?
Become a better artist. God already made us into a better person. A better artist that can control my career and have people around me that have the best interest at heart.
You started out as a rasta man with locs?
Just did have hair on my head. From the first interview me do, I told them I did not know anything about rasta.
What do you say about the people who became a rasta because of you?
That’s their choice. Rasta is not a bad thing but that’s their choice.
Are you spiritual in any sense of the word?
Oh My God everybody is supposed to be spiritual, all the man who say no God nuh deh. I even have an album name Spirit. Mi tell the most high say you if you shot back me ting me aguh sing back fi you, and in one month I drop two albums that go Billboard so I have to sing about Him.
I remember seeing you for the first time on Reggae Sumfest in full red and vibrant with a good voice but I am sensing a different vibe now, what’s the cause of that?
It’s like I nah do music fi just buss again. I am drawing the people closer to the most high. My secret weapon is the singing voice.
I see your wife is here, do you think she helped to bring out a better person?
A real talk but people can only bring out what’s already inside of you. My wife just a bring out the best of me and my team of people around me.
