Vybz Kartel’s Eldest Son Likkle Vybz Turns 18
Likkle Vybz, the eldest son of Dancehall titan Vybz Kartel turned 18 years old yesterday (April 18), and can now take control of his father’s Portmore Empire music label, Adidjahiem Records.
Likkle Vybz, born Adidja Jaheim Palmer has already made a name for himself in the industry alongside his brother Likkle Addi as deejays. They released their Skinny Jeans EP a year ago and both collaborated with their father on his To Tanesha and Of Dons of Diva albums last year and the Dancehall Royalty EP which was released in January.
As Likkle Vybz assumes his new role as CEO at Adidjahiem Records, the 18-year-old plans on recruiting some fresh new artists to the label, as disclosed by his brother Likkle Addi in an interview last month with Winford Williams’ Onstage. He also went on the say that Kartel’s youngest son; World Boss Jr. will eventually head the company’s music productions.
All three boys, who are sons of Tanesha ‘Shorty’ Johnson of Short Boss Muzik, another record label in the family’s dynasty, are well rooted in music and driven to honing the many facets of music creation.
Just recently Kartel shared a few videos on Instagram of each of them now learning to play the instruments.
Likkle Vybz has taken a liking to play the drums, while Likkle Addi is steadily mastering the guitar and Worl Boss Jr. was sounding pretty good on the piano. One video also shows a teaming with Likkle Vybz and Worl Boss Jr. nailing the acoustics to Michael Jackson’s Beat It.
They certainly impressed some of Kartel’s industry friends, such as Busta Rhymes, Shaniel Muir, Jesse Royal, Demarco, ZJ Chrome, Shabdon Records, and others who all expressed raved reviews in their comments on the posts.
With his sights set on taking over the reins of Adidjahiem Records, Likkle Vybz and his brother, Likkle Addi, 16, have been aligning themselves to running the company for a few years now. They both have pursued business studies in school; Addi is currently in 4th form about to take his CSEC exams at an undisclosed high school in Kingston.
Before the Portmore Empire disbanded in 2012, the label was home to Dancehall acts such as Popcaan, Tommy Lee Sparta, Blak Ryno, Jah Vinci, Vanessa Bling, Sheba, Shawn Storm, Lisa Hyper, and Deva Bratt, most have which have gone one to lead quite successful careers in music.
