When he’s not in the studio making music, Dancehall star Popcaan likes to throw on his chef hat and apron and whip up some tasty Jamaican cuisine in the kitchen.

Yesterday in an episode of BuzzFeedTasty’s, Cooking in the kitchen with, Popcaan showed viewers his Grandma’s   re cipe for curry chicken and white rice.

Immaculately decked out in an all-white chef ensemble with a red bandana tied around his neck and of course his customary iced-out bling, the deejay took us through the process of seasoning his chicken with chicken bouillon, freshly grated ginger and garlic cloves, kosher salt, and curry powder, complete with a slow hand massage to blend in the flavors.

Next was ‘burning the curry powder’ in a dutch pot of hot oil to then add the chicken. Cover and simmer for, “15 minutes before mi appear again,” Poppy says to eventually add scallion, onions, bell peppers, carrots, potatoes, thyme, pimento seeds, scotch bonnet pepper and water.

Once his pot began to simmer, Popcaan’s curried chicken was looking beyond scrumptious. “Yoooo…. Super chef in the kitchen today,” he said quite pleased with the outcome. Before we knew it, he was dishing his curried chicken on a plate with some white rice, garnished with sliced tomatoes.

This is not the first time Popcaan has shared his curried chicken recipe with the world. Back in 2011, in the early stages of his music career, a 23-year-old Popcaan invited TheStarOnline inside his home to reveal that he was quite the chef thanks to his Grandmother Gwyneth Sutherland, who taught him how to cook.

It was then that he laid down the inherited formula to his tasty curried chicken for the first time.

Another music mogul, Shaggy aka Chef BoyarShaggy is also fond of making curried chicken and what he says is one of his favorite dishes.

Over the Christmas holidays in an episode of his YouTube show, Christmas In The Islands, Shaggy whipped up his version, though similar to Popcaan’s recipe, involved dunking a can of butter beans into his pot – ‘the Garrison way.’
