Traffic Charges
The Unruly Boss was apprehended and charged on Sunday afternoon after allegedly being involved in a careless driving incident in St. Thomas, Radio Jamaica (RJR) news has reported.
According to the report from the St. Thomas police, sometime after 1:00pm, they intercepted Popcaan and his entourage, who were gallivanting along River Road in the community of Bath.
Popcaan, whose real name is André Sutherland, was allegedly seen riding a motorcycle in what the police described as a careless manner. The Numbers Don’t Lie artist was accosted and prosecuted for breaches of the Road Traffic Act including:
- Unlicensed motor vehicle
- Driving without insurance or fitness
- No fixed registration plate
- Riving without a helmet
- Careless Driving
According to The Star tabloid, the St. Thomas police, who were “acting on information,” intercepted Popcaan, who was reportedly travelling with his entourage in a nine vehicle convoy and also charged him with driving with no side-view mirror.
The Star also said that Popcaan, who failed to produce a driver’s licence, is to appear before the Yallahs Traffic Court on June 3, to answer to the six charges.
If found guilty under the Road Traffic Act, the 32-year-old faces a $15,000 fine for driving a motor vehicle on a road without a valid certificate of fitness; $10,000 for driving a motor vehicle on a road without it being registered in the prescribed manner; and $20,000 for driving a motor vehicle in a careless manner.
He also faces a $5,000 fine for the un-affixed registration plates.
In addition, though very unlikely, if he is found to not be the holder of a permit or driver’s licence, he would face a $40,000 fine.
For failure, to wear a protective helmet in the prescribed manner of the prescribed shape, quality, construction or standard, while driving or riding on a motorcycle, he faces a $8,000 fine.
