Spice’s latest single, the long awaited ladies anthem Go Down Deh is a slick and sexy “historic” collaboration all set to burn up the airwaves. Enlisting the Grammy winning living legends Shaggy and Sean Paul, the Graci Noir diva’s new track is also a nod to staying power in the dancehall genre.

“The fact that I was able to bring this together for dancehall is a big moment for me”, the Queen of Dancehall told DancehallMag. “It’s a great energy for all three of us as hitmakers to come together and believe in this song.”

Grammy-nominated producer Costi Ionita brings an intriguing instrumental rife with sonic influences (middle eastern, 90’s dancehall) that still retains an authentic bashment sound. The pulsating track was clearly made with the club in mind, and Spice’s promo efforts include a lavish launch party for her loyal Besties.

“I’ve never been so confident about a song. Fi know seh wi lockdown fi one year now, we nuh get nuttn happy weh mek yuh ready fi wine, an when yuh hear di beat drop it come een like yuh waan go crazy,” Spice said of the second single from her debut LP with VP Records, TEN.

With consecutive sensual hits like Under Fire, Cool It and Back Way, Spice told DancehallMag she was “doing her duty as the waistline queen” when she set things in motion for the masterpiece. The Sheet deejay who also performs under the Ranch Entertainment banner walked in on the beat being played by Ranch CEO and TEN’s Executive Producer, Shaggy. “I just had to have it,” Spice quipped, and the rest as they say is history.

“To be honest, I walked in on that track, it was already done and had Shaggy’s voice on it and I was the one who said I want to be a part of this immediately from I heard the track because everybody knows I’m the waistline queen, I like to wine and go down”, the LHHATL star said.

Praising Shaggy’s skillful ear for alluring beats, she said she was glad to be included in the production when the suggestion came up to include Sean Paul, since he and Shaggy had never collaborated on such a single.

Many told her it was impossible but, of course, Spice rose to the challenge. “I have a great relationship with both of them so I said I will call Sean Paul, suggest it and see if he’s interested, When I did he never delayed. He was like, “Yeah, mek mi hear it Queen, and when he heard it he voiced on it that same day. So creatively all three of us hear something on this song and that’s also why I’m so passionate about this project.”

It’s a case of ‘good friends’ and ‘good fortune’ finally aligning for the dancehall heavyweights, and Sean Paul seems as excited for their “major” link up. Sean was actually the first to spill the tea when he shared his excitement about the upcoming scorcher from the “Big S’s” in Dancehall, during a January interview with DJ4eign.

Just recently, Spice congratulated SP on his new track in an IG caption, and the Get Busy veteran took the opportunity to hype up their new single. “Big up @duttypaul you’ve done so much for our culture. This song from your album is blazing fire @skillibeng @masickamusic,” Spice wrote.

Sean Paul responded with “@spiceofficial SAME WAY SO MI ARTIS!!! CYAH WAIT FI DEM GET THE BIG CHUNE WIT ME U AN @direalshaggy #GODOWNDEH BIG BBC CHUNE U HEAR DAT!!!”

Spice also spoke highly of the crossover appeal on Go Down Deh. Both Shaggy and Sean Paul have international clout, – one of Spice’s main musical aspirations – giving the track a wider reach as she explained to radio host Angela Yee back in January.

“Within the dancehall space we always try to go outside of the genre to get that international crossover record, but these two giants in the genre have done it and have the audience for it so why not have them come together on a track?” she said.

Now that Spice has liberated the single, fans eagerly await the matching acrobatic visuals set to premiere tomorrow (May 1). “Da song yah jus mek we ready fi gwaan wid wiself”, Spice said excitedly, and the woman who once told us to “drop it like a plane a descend” doesn’t let up this time around.

“Wine pon yuh good mek sweat a drip offa mi body, yeah/ How yuh full ah chat an yuh cyaan keep up wid mi energy?/ Wat a epic night, have it embedded inna yuh memory/ Lethal bubbler, fi treat it like a felony”, she sings on the track.

With countless hits between them in that department, the trio didn’t play about their provocative prowess. “Early morning love she get it good from she rise/ Smile pon her face, mi know she pleased wid di size”, Shaggy spits on the track, reprising Boombastic’s teasing growl.

Sean Paul comes through with his usual commander quality – “Gyal nuh bodda fight it, jus get inna di position an buss wine/ Never you forget dis ah yuh mission,” while the Ranch Ent labelmates, Spice and Shaggy double up on the chorus, a hypnotic, hip shaking chant.

The mind-blowing fan response on YouTube is a clear ‘indicator’ the Queen hasn’t lost her touch.

“I can’t stop whine. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 STAY DUNG DEH GAL 🔥🔥🔥🔥🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲” one fan said in between fire emojis, while another wrote “#SSS, yes this my Summer Pull up anthem!!!! Fire!!!” Some begged the blue haired songstress to drop the visuals, others made fitting comparisons – “Bad like corona 🔥🔥🔥” – and the banger left another fan in her feels, even as she tried to give Spice her flowers. “Me wah fling out me back to da song yah …a now me hate lock dung, dis want a crowd like sumfest talk truth”, she said.

Go Down Deh is perfectly geared to all the gyration we’ve been missing out on, the hybrid summer hit we’re sure we needed.
