Dancehall Fans Sound Off After Erica Mena Files For Divorce Amid Safaree Cheating Allegations
American couple Erica Mena and Safaree Samuels are calling it quits again, but for some Dancehall fans, the cheating allegations boil down to cultural considerations.
According to TMZ, Mena, who is pregnant with the couple’s second child, filed for divorce last Friday in Fayette County Superior Court in Georgia, where she and Samuels married just two years prior. The story broke after a clip surfaced online allegedly showing Safaree dancing intimately with another woman at the club.
The viral clip captioned “Safaree just continues to embarrass Erica Mena. #LHHNY #LHHATL #LHHH” is widely speculated to have influenced her decision – Erica seemingly responded, writing “You won.” on her Instagram Stories.

It’s unclear whether the clip is recent, but some internet users pointed out that the so-called ‘intimate’ moves are typical of Jamaican Dancehall antics. Safaree, a rapper, TV presenter and host, is notoriously not shy about his Jamaican roots, and is especially animated during any live set where he can show off his accent and dance moves.
A month ago, Samuels was “speechless” when Mena surprised him with a Jamaican themed backyard party for his birthday featuring the Queen of Dancehall herself, Spice.
“My wife just surprised me and brought Jamaica to my backyard. I cannot believe I just walked in my yard and had @spiceofficial performing at my crib Yoooooo this was insaneee omg!!! Yooo thank you sooo much! WOWW I am speechless!! reggae Sumfest in my yard!!!” he gushed on IG about Mena’s gift.
It seems there’s trouble in paradise again, however, with many of those giving their two cents on the news sounding off in favour of Safaree.
“Girl lol. You married a Jamaican! Calm down” said one user in a popular outlet’s comments, while another read “If you know the West Indian and Caribbean culture this is nothing new.”
“Islanders are the only ppl I know where you can get a dance from someone else and it’s not somehow considered cheating,” one user said in response to the seductive wining, while another was more critical of the context – “Jamaican dance wild like this married or not lol they wild .. but he need to stop cuz Erica not feeling that and she pregnant.”
Others felt Safaree’s job description rather than infidelity was the clear motive – “Is he performing? I ask because he has the Mic in hand? If he is performing then that’s not disrespect. This is no different than a married person kissing or doing a sex scene at work,” while others found the sensual scene inexcusable – “Jamaican or not you don’t have to do that s–t”.
This isn’t the pair’s first time ending their highly publicized relationship; it remains to be seen whether this was another ploy or if Mena has simply had enough. For now, though, it seems the self-styled ‘Stunt Man’ just can’t win. Female fans continue to target him even when he avoids the spotlight.
Most recently at Spice’s Go Down Deh launch party in Atlanta, the Cool It deejay shared a hilarious moment involving Safaree with her 3.5M fans.

“It was all fine and well with @safaree until my #TeamSpiceMiami 🇺🇸 dancer @tahirew entered the chat 😂 first Best Caption below wins a @gracinoir outfit I’m still in Tears 😭 😭😭,” Spice captioned the clip where her dancer completely blindsides Safaree and jumps into his arms gyrating.
At the time, Mena responded “That’s what his a–s gets! Wanting to be all extra and s–t”, 😂 but the LHH actor was so visibly shaken up he took the mic and asked the dancer “Who raised you?!”
Those in the comments laughed along, also noting Safaree was innocent. “Safaree saw his whole life flash before him”, one user said while another added, “Ericka she jump him, he is innocent.”
Another quipped, “likkle most unu gi e man heart attack 😂😂😂😂 afta him a try behave,” while one of the most popular comments read, “Her: a wonder wah Erica wuda seh if mi dance wid r husband… also her: mi nuh business we a Jamaican, dance wid any gal man and nuh response.”
