Self-Proclaimed Atheist Skatta Burrell Sends Well-Wishes To Jahmiel On His Baptism
Music producer Skatta Burrell, who is a self-declared atheist, well-known for making daily iconoclastic statements on Instagram about God, Jesus and other deities, is among the members of the Dancehall fraternity sending well-wishes to Role Model artiste Jahmiel, on his recent baptism.
On Tuesday afternoon, Skatta made his sentiments known in a comment on The Star’s Instagram page. “All the best on your journey Jahmiel. Better to be in Church than behind bars or involved in negatives contributing to the downward spiral of our society,” the Coolie Dance producer wrote.
“Obviously he’s dealing with a few tings and sees the church as a path to his redemption. As long as he don’t get caught up in the tings that puts him on the opposite side of the law he has a right to pursue whichever path he deems fit,” he later added in response to a commenter.
Skatta’s musings come two months after he told the hosts of The Fix Podcast that he had received numerous threats of bodily harm from Christians on his Instagram page, many of which he had archived and could resurrect at any time.
Skatta had also said at the time, that he had ceased making his iconoclastic comments after doing so religiously for five years, as he felt that he had accomplished his mission, which was to highlight the fact that Christianity is a mere representation of modern-day slavery.
Some commenters who appeared to be aware of Skatta’s many skirmishes with Christians, and his regular jeering of followers of Christ on his Instagram page on Sunday mornings, commended him for not taking his usual sardonic approach to matters of religion in this case.
“Even “SKATTA a mind him business,” shannicole1980 wrote, while nickyrednose noted: “@skattaburrell 👏👏👏good to see that although it is not your path or beliefs you could still have something positive to say about it. If more of us could differ like this imagine how this world would be”.
The Downsound executive also came in for a little teasing from a few naughty commenters, who seemed quite aware of his atheism.
“@skattaburrell suh you not having an EXPERIENCE to turn you from (the Christian) SAul to PAul…..😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 i think prayers going up fi dat alot 😂😂😂😂😂,” da_k_us_1 said.
“@skattaburrell cah believe you post this….jesus bless you, I’m impressed👏🔥,’ _konaniere22 added.
Skatta, who is a Calabar High School old boy, was raised in the church, and baptized at the United Pentecostal Church of Jamaica and has credited his musical development to his time in church.
His position on Jahmiel’s baptism is in stark contrast to the war of words that he had with Bounty Killer in 2018, when he at the time lambasted the Warlord for promulgating Christianity, which he described as a “religion created by the slave masters” on his Instagram Live.
Skatta had even told the Benz and Bimmer artiste to start reading in order to educate himself properly, before speaking about God and Christianity. However Bounty Killer had, in return dismissed Skatta, claiming he was only seeking to remain relevant.
In September 2018, Skatta was rebuked and told to repent by Dancehall gospel deejay Chozzen during a Star Chat programme after he claimed that God did not exist.
Last October, Skatta left Christians in a tizzy after he attended a Halloween party dressed as a pastor, and uploaded a video of himself noting: “Esundayservice🙏🏿 touch not the Lord’s anointed. You all know I could never turn down the opportunity to show up as a Scammer right?”
“🙏🏿 Jesus love was a bubbling over🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃,” he said in a follow-up post. ” When Robbers come together for the photos. We are all ambitious thieves,” he had added.
