Dancehall Artist Laden Sings About A ‘Minor Setback’ Behind The Prison Walls
Fans of Dancehall artist Laden are raving about his latest track, Minor Setback, which was released on the Believe riddim by Attomatic Records last week.
The incarcerated Laden brings the hard bars from ‘behind the bars’ as he sings of his struggle: “Instead of up, mi name dem carry roun, dem carry down/still ah carry on/pay fi anything mi waan but mi ah beg yu guide me Lord.”
The lyrics ring true given Laden’s current incarceration. In December, he was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment for illegal possession of a firearm & 18 months for the illegal possession of ammunition. Both sentences will run concurrently, that is to run together, so he will serve a maximum of 4 years.
Laden, whose real name is O’keefe Aarons, may apply for parole after 1 year.
The song was released alongside visuals of a shirtless Laden deejaying while seated on a bike as he delivers a message for disenfranchised youths who have made a mistake, or encountered an obstacle.
Laden singjays: “Never lost my way on this lonely journey/but wah ‘mount ah pain mi feel, mi think mi gonna need surgery/still have a lot to do, dem caan stop me, that impossible/mi have the Russian K/the model new/the amount of fight me fight, yu see the battle wounds.”
