Dancehall Veterans Little Lenny, Little Kirk Have High Hopes For New Single ‘Same Whine’
Veteran Dancehall acts Little Lenny, and Little Kirk recently teamed up to record a new single titled Same Whine.
Little Lenny believes that the song, which is the second single off the Atlantic Buzz various artistes album that was released by the British based Miles Ahead label, will help him and Little Kirk to connect with a new generation of Dancehall fans.
“The youths who are supporting dancehall music today don’t know who we are, they hear our hits from the past, but they don’t even know our names. So hopefully, this song will help to broaden our fan base to include this new generation of Dancehall fans,” said Little Lenny.
Little Kirk also has great expectations for the single, “I’m getting positive feedback about this new single. I think with the right promotion; it will be a hit. We just have to keep promoting it so it will penetrate the minds of music lovers all over the world,” he said.
Produced by British-based Jamaican-born producer Lorna Da’Angel, Same Whine was released in May on the Miles Ahead label.
A supporting video for Same Whine was shot and directed by popular music video director Nordia Rose.
The video was also released in May and is available on the Miles Ahead Vevo channel.
Both Little Kirk and Little Lenny are former members of the now-defunct Shocking Vibes Crew, which also included the self-proclaimed King of the Dancehall Beenie Man.
During the 1990s and the early 2000s the Shocking Vibes Crew was one of the most popular crews in Dancehall music.
Little Lenny (given name Nigel Grandison) shot to national attention while still a student at Kingston College in the late 1980s. His catalogue includes hits such as the controversial Gun Inna Baggy, which got him expelled from Kingston College and Healthy Body.
Little Kirk (given name Kirk Davis) is one of the founding members of the Shocking Vibes crew. He also began his career in the 1980s. He is known for hits such as Ghetto People Broke, Man In The Mirror and I Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love.
