Jeymes Samuel Remix Of Barrington Levy’s ‘Here I Come’ From ‘The Harder They Fall’ Soundtrack Released
Sampled by everyone from Shaggy to the Black Eyed Peas, Barrington Levy’s 1984 dancehall hit Here I Come has ‘shoodilley-wopped’ its way to the big screen, and is the first song released on the soundtrack for Netflix’s upcoming original The Harder They Fall.
Director Jeymes Samuel’s remix is now available to stream/download on all major platforms via Roc Nation Records, after its Thursday debut in the teaser trailer for the black western.
Film buffs and music fans alike are amped up by the reworked Reggae classic, which is l ess than two minutes long, and features Levy’s famous scat over a charged-up backdrop. “
This Fall, We Ride”, the Netflix trailer read, teasing the release date; it’s no wonder the booming beat feels like charging horses and marching armies.
The Harder They Fall is, as Netflix puts it, “a righteously new school Western” centered around ruthless rival gangs seeking revenge. With its Avengers-esque, all black ensemble cast – Idris Elba, Regina King, Delroy Lindo, Lakeith Stanfield, Edi Gathegi, Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, Danielle Deadwyler, R.J. Cyler, and Damon Wayans Jr. – the soundtrack promises to be an adrenaline rush of an album if the first two tracks are anything to go by.
Also in the line up is Fela Kuti’s funk classic Let’s Start, a high altitude Afrobeat cut that deftly melds with the trailer’s slick, slow-mo cinematography. The star-studded cast has its fair share of shoot-outs, fist-fights and stand-offs, and the curated list of high-energy tracks to match sets very high expectations for the final film.
The new Western is produced by none other than Sean ‘Jay-Z Carter’ and the nods to musical greats so far are notable. Fela Kuti is considered an Afrobeats pioneer while Barrington Levy’s decorated 45-year career includes over 30 albums, a stint at Island Records, a Grammy nomination, and much more.
Here I Come has remained an all-time international fan favourite over the years – back in 2018, R&B songbird Ciara went viral schooling her youngest son at the time, Future, in the melodic tongue twister.
Levy, 56, is also best known for Black Roses, Too Experienced, Living Dangerously with Bounty Killer, Collie Weed, Shine Eye Girl, Ah Yah We Deh, and countless others. He was among the veterans of the genre tapped by American producer DJ Khaled earlier this year for the hit collaboration Where You Come From , currently at 10M views on Youtube.
