Mr. Vegas Cops Silver For ‘Heads High’ After Selling 200K Copies In UK

Dancehall vet Mr. Vegas has received a BRIT Certified Silver Award for his hit single Heads High having sold 200K copies in the UK.

After more than two decades since the release of one of his biggest tracks, Head High, Mr. Vegas is celebrating yet another success for the record. He showed off the BRIT plaque yesterday on Instagram, which he received from British Phonographic Industry (BPI). The single was awarded Silver status based on Official Charts Company data having sold 200,000 units.

The Dancehall deejay acknowledged that the song was the catalyst that launched his career and made him a household name. He thanked his team, “Leslie, Frenchy, and Main Street Crew,” and the fans that supported and bought his music over the years.

“This is the song that really set the stage for Mr. Vegas’ career, you understand,” he said. “So we give thanks, and the fans dem that have been supporting this song over the years I give thanks.”

He also wrote in the caption, “200,000 copies sold…from ground floor to the top floor.”

The now BRIT Certified Silver single was the lead track in the collection of Vegas’ debut album Heads High, which was produced by Greensleeves Record Label in 1998. The album later hit the No. 5 spot on the US Reggae Chart and subsequently won him a MOBO for Best Reggae Artist.

The I Am Blessed singer also showed off another big achievement on his recent IG upload. An additional plague from Spotify to toast his collaborative effort on the 2012-released single, Voices of Sweet Jamaica , which sold 18 million digital streams. The single featured vocal assists from some huge names in the genre, namely the late Daddy URoy (RIP), Barrington Levy, Marcia Griffith, Christopher Martin, CeCile, Tony Curtis, Singing Melody, Freddi McGregor, Leroy Smart, Josey Wales, Shaggy, and Beenie Man.

Mr. Vegas again expressed his gratitude to the fans for making the success of the single possible. Many responded in the comment section of the post to congratulate the artist.

One fan said, “Congratulations bro bro on your success keep doing your thing!.” Another added, “Big up yourself artist,” and a third said, “This is a big achievement… Legendary.”

Mr. Vegas, whose real name is Clifford Smith, 46, emerged as one of the most recognized voices in Dancehall in the late 90s to early 2000s. His music has secured top spots on the Billboard Reggae Charts and US Reggae and US R&B Charts during the peak of his career in the early 2000s.
