Dancehall artist Popcaan has denied the recent rumors that he was punched in the face by his cousin Unruly Cuz, a member of his Unruly camp.

Popcaan and Unruly Cuz have a seemingly solid relationship, with the deejay mentioning Cuz in several of his songs including the Dre Skull-produced hit Silence where he sang, “Big up Unruly Cuz up a Sunning Hill”. The two have also collaborated on music together, namely Millions and Watch Ya, a single off Popcaan’s Fixtape featuring Furnace and Shev.

However, according to several reports, Popcaan and Unruly Cuz had an altercation at an event that Cuz was hosting at the ‘Unruly River’ last Sunday.  The ‘Unruly River’, a section of the Running River in Sunning Hill, St Thomas, is a favorite hang-out spot for Popcaan and is featured in many of his music videos.

The reports claimed that things got heated when the Family deejay pushed Unruly Cuz, who then allegedly threw the first “thump”, hitting Popcaan in the face.  The reports also allege that the altercation escalated when Popcaan’s entourage retaliated.

Popcaan, who hasn’t been on social media in months (until yesterday) took to Twitter yesterday to debunk the reports. The Dancehall deejay said had he been punched in the face, no one would have been left standing.

“Tump who ina face?? A nobody nuh dead?” he wrote, accompanied with a laughing face emoji.

Fans have been speculating that Unruly Cuz was the subject of Popcaan’s New Year’s Day release, Relevant, a scathing critique of friends turned foes.

Popcaan spits on the track, “Never know ah Mark X coulda mek yuh move different/ Style and yuh par wid yuh crew different/ P— dem vex anytime mi vent/ And still go ah road and ah use mi strength.

Meanwhile, according to the STAR, the Unruly River is the same spot where St. Thomas cops warned Popcaan about holding river parties in contravention of the Disaster Risk Management Act (DRMA), and near where he was slapped with breaches of Jamaica’s Road Traffic Act in April.

Popcaan will return to court on September 2.
