“Popcaan Was Playing The Peacemaker,” Source Says
Earlier this week, Popcaan denied reports that he was punched in the face by his cousin Unruly Cuz last Sunday at the ‘Unruly River’, a popular hangout spot in Sunning Hill, St Thomas.
According to a source, the Dancehall star only stepped in to diffuse a minor fracas, allegedly involving his cousin and another man.
“Popcaan was there hanging out with his friends when Unruly Cuz and his friends came up there with machetes,” the source told DancehallMag. “They had come to beat another man over some long time vibes, but Popcaan see the play and step in and tek weh the machete and put it on pon some ah dem and the thing simmer down.”
“Popcaan was playing the peacemaker,” the source explained.
In a Tweet on Thursday, Popcaan sought to debunk the reports by declaring that had he been punched in the face, no one would have been left standing. “Tump who ina face?? A nobody nuh dead?” he wrote, accompanied with a laughing face emoji.
The dust-up was not reported as checks with the Jamaica Constabulary Force did not reveal any information.
The 32-year-old El Chapo artist, whose real name is Andre Sutherland, has been in a bit of legal hot water recently. In April, the police allegedly intercepted his nine-vehicle convoy in St Thomas and hit him with a battery of charges in breach of the Road Traffic Act, including driving an unlicensed vehicle and careless driving.
During his appearance in the Traffic court in June, Popcaan denied the charges and claimed that he was not driving the bike when the police intercepted the convoy. The singer, who is represented by Matthew Hyatt, will next appear in court on September 2 when a trial date is expected to be set.
