Popcaan, Ce’Cile Cop Silver And Platinum UK Certifications
Dancehall artists Popcaan and Ce’Cile received Silver and Platinum certifications respectively from the British Photographic Industry last Friday.
On Monday, as Popcaan celebrated his 33rd birthday, news came that his 2020 collab with British R&B singer Jorja Smith titled Come Over had been certified silver in the United Kingdom after selling over 200,000 copies.
The Dancehall star teamed up with Smith for sensual banter on a pretty slick, pop and dancehall infused track, which also peaked at No. 27 on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart in December 2020.
The song’s animated music video has racked up almost 9 million views on YouTube.
In 2020, Popcaan also contributed Megan Thee Stallion‘s Good News album, which was certified platinum by the RIAA after selling over 1,000,000 copies in the US.
Meanwhile, Ce’Cile’s 2010 collaboration with British disc jock DJ Fresh titled Gold Dust has been certified double platinum after selling over 1,200,000 copies in the UK.
Gold Dust was re-released in 2010 with Ce’Cile’s vocals and has amassed over 52 million views on YouTube.
“This is just so cool. It just helps me to remember to do music and just continue to work hard,” Ce’Cile told the Jamaica Observer. “I have to say big up to DJ Fresh for sending me that track. He felt it would match my sound, and I did it. He’s someone who I’ve kept in contact with over the years.”
Ce’Cile is best known for hit songs like Changez and Can You Do the Wuk. In April, she released the Sophisticated EP with producer ZJ Chrome. The eight-track collection included songs like Come Over and the title track Sophisticated.
