Chris Gayle Says He’s Staying The Course In Music
West Indies Cricketer turned artist Chris ‘Universe Boss’ Gayle has said that contrary to the opinion of some, music is not simply a passing fad for him, and he believes his latest single Train Line should demonstrate that he’s in it for the long haul.
According to Gayle, Train Line shows that he’s staying on track musically and hopes to incorporate more musical genres in his artistry, noting that his latest single is a blend of dancehall and soca.
Gayle shared that given that the entertainment industry has somewhat reopened in Jamaica, Train Line was intended to commemorate the reopening and give fans something to dance to at parties.
With its fun, high-energy melody Gayle transcends the physical boundaries of Jamaica, appeals to fans worldwide, who he says will also enjoy dancing to the song. “Everyone wants to have fun after this lockdown period, plus its summer so its party season and Train Line is a party song,” Gayle explained.
The fun concept of the song was on display in the visuals for the song which features Laa Lee, among others who are seen in the video doing the new dance move the Dirt Bounce on the train line that runs through Milk River in Clarendon.
“Dirt Bounce is the hottest move in the street right now so I had to include Laa Lee and the Dirt Bounce dancers in this project as well, it’s all unity in dancehall,” Gayle added.
Gayle further shared that he was pleased with the success of his global collaboration with Indian Pop artiste, Emiway, which has racked up over 36 million views since its April release.
The positive reception to his collab is something Gayle says continues to inspire him, and encourages him to keep contributing to the dancehall culture, adding that he believes his global influence will bring new listeners to the genre.
“More music is on the way for sure and definitely more cricket to be played as well. Right now both music and sports give me joy so I will continue to balance both,” Gayle shared.
