One1Can Defends His ‘Two Plate A Food’
In the wake of the much-publicized furore involving singer One1can and celebrity media personality Khadine “Miss Kitty” Hylton, One1can has dropped a new single playing on the entire episode.
The song, Two Plate A Food comes against the background of a threatened lawsuit against One1can by Miss Kitty, after the recording artist and former journalist made claims through the media that were seen as unfavourable by Miss Kitty, who is also an attorney-at-law.
One1can said that to date he has not received documents regarding the threatened defamation lawsuit. He added that his new single is a tongue-in-cheek, thinly-veiled swipe at disparagers over the saga. According to One1can, Two Plate A Food is relatable generally, as it sums up the sentiments of vindictiveness and petty vendetta that are commonplace throughout the society.
The visuals for Two Plate A Food are presented in a newscast format, and have attracted 25,000 YouTube views since being uploaded days ago.
“All of us have encountered situations that, for one reason or another, persons deliberately try to stifle our dreams and goals. The song is encouragement for us to not succumb to dream killers, but to fight back against those who would want to pull the rug from under us,” he said.
As to whether the song is in relation to the whole saga involving Miss Kitty, the singer would only say that people were free to interpret the track however they wished. “I would not want to spoil anything for anybody. One person may have a different interpretation from the other, and each person can draw inspiration from different perspectives,” he noted, hinting that, “there is much more to come on the horizon.”
One1can was quick to point out that Two Plate A Food is among several recordings that are slated to be released, the subjects of which cover a range of social and topical issues.
“My songs are not just for entertainment; they are instruments of advocacy. Music can be an effective vehicle for relaying important messages and helping to shape human behaviour, but I do it cleverly and entertainingly rather than forcefully,” he explained.
In a letter to One1can from the attorneys of Miss Kitty, which was widely circulated through social media, the singer was given twenty-four hours to publicly apologise for his media utterances regarding the radio host, emcee and attorney. Instead of apologising, One1can made a number of media appearances in which he doubled down on the utterances that were seen by Miss Kitty and her attorneys to be defamatory.
The just-released Two Plate A Food comes on the heels of V.I.P Girl, another One1can number that has 131,000 YouTube views. One1Can, whose real name is Milton Wray, is over the moon about the response to his music. “Since I was 15 years old, I was performing live and recording in the studios for some of the top record producers, only to now be finding success finally. Imagine the joy it brings to finally be able to do your passion, because one could consider me a late bloomer. It shows that you can accomplish what you wish at any age,” he said.
