Quada Toasts His ‘Day One’ Friends In New Visuals: Watch
Dancehall deejay Quada went down memory lane to share his trip to success, while toasting his real friends in new visuals for a single titled Day One. Produced by Young General Records and Island Wav on the Day One Riddim , the title track and an accompanying music video by Lagikz Supreme was released yesterday (August 1).
Inviting viewers to see the ascension of the Unruly Entertainment protégé, ‘Quada Don’, the video kicks off with what appears to be old cellphone footage from 2013. A young Quada spits his precipitated lyrics on beats produced by the knocking of a classroom desk, during his days at Calabar High School.
Day One speaks about the beginning times for the deejay: “Ah dis we been a talk ‘bout, from days when nutt’n nah gwaan, from before mi link Popcaan get di money in a mi palm, way before mi start perform.” Quada sings while images of his khaki-uniform wearing younger self is seen behind the mic in the recording booth trying to land a hit song. His schoolmate isn’t far, sitting by the music controls seemingly producing the beat for his song.
The Celebration deejay verses go on to honor his true friends, the ones he calls family that has been there from the start and during the rough times.
“Mi family mi bredda, we make the money together, yeah we stack eh cheddar. Life never nice fi we, a nuff rocky weather and now man deh yah a give thanks bredda because life change up and man happy. When we di broke, we never see nubaddy, now greatness a come dem can’t stop it, JP done tell me fi get the Grammy,” he sings.
At the end of the video, a flashback of his performance at Unruly Fest in 2019 shows Quada on stage talking about his days on the street as a windshield wiper boy, hustling to make a buck while pursuing his dream of becoming a deejay.
