Disney Amyka Says The Strong Women In Her Life Inspired Her ‘Feel Good’ Single
Up and coming singer Disney Amyka dropped her Feel Good single on July 30.
The New York based singer who is of Jamaican parentage, shared that the strong women in her life are the inspiration behind the song, which Amyka says is meant to celebrate women more generally.
“I wanted to create something that had a positive message and also uplifting for women. The women in my life are more than just what meets the surface. They face adversity, struggles and much more, but they manage to still be joyful,”Amyka explained.
“Let’s embrace the great things we are capable of as women. The song is a celebration,”Amyka added.
Produced by Melissa Lyric and co-produced by Trevor Brown, Feel Good has been making inroads on radio stations within the tri-state area, something which Amyka is super happy about.
“Radio support has been so crazy! The reactions are beyond anything I could’ve asked for. People have been sending me snippets of them hearing me on the radio and it has created such a demand for the song to be out. People are amped and so am I,” Disney Amyka shared.
Amyka grew up around music
While Amyka is just getting started in her music career, the singer still in her early twenties, shared that she grew up in and around music.
Amyka grew up around her uncle, who is famed music producer Rohan ‘Jah Snowcone’ Fuller, known internationally as the force behind Sean Paul’s Billboard number one single Temperature.
“My family is from Kingston and I grew up around music all my life. As a child there were stars in and out of our home on a regular basis because my uncle is a music producer. I was basically a fly on the wall to some amazing talent and I naturally gained a love for music and wanted to pursue it myself,” she explained.
However,it is not just the stardom that attracted Amyka to a career in music but notes that music has unimaginable power, a power she wants to spread far and wide in her sound which she hopes will help others to embrace themselves.
“I want to make people feel good and embrace every side of themselves in order for them to be their unapologetic self. Music is a vibration, so it’s important to me to capture every emotion. I genuinely hope to create songs that ultimately resonate with what I am feeling and who I am. Hopefully that translates to others,” add Amyka.
Born Moniefa Amyka Grant, she was called Disney due to her bubbly personality and innate talent that lights up any room.
