Brooklyn Shooting Leaves Two Dead, Three Injured After Shaneil Muir Performance At An ‘All White’ Party
Two people were killed and three others wounded in a shooting at a party in Brooklyn, where Dancehall artist Shaneil Muir had performed over the weekend. NYPD authorities have said the incident stemmed from a verbal dispute inside the venue.
The party, dubbed the ‘Crush Ice On Strawberry All White Day Event’, had Muir billed for a live performance at the venue called the ‘Brooklyn Garden,’ located at 101 Wortman Avenue in Brooklyn, New York between 5 PM and 10 PM on Saturday.
From Instagram videos posted by Muir and her team, it appeared that the Yamabella singer had completed her performance for about 100 to 150 people, and had left the venue around 12:00 AM, before the gunfire started early Sunday morning.
Assistant Chief Judith Harrison, commanding officer of Patrol Borough Brooklyn North, said at a press conference on Sunday afternoon that “preliminary investigations revealed that there was a verbal dispute inside 101 Wortman Ave. when an unknown male brandished a firearm and began shooting. He shot two people inside that location.”
One video, shared by an attendee on Instagram, showed patrons giving aid to a wounded victim inside the venue as the police and paramedics arrived. He was shot in the chest and neck and was listed in critical condition, according to the NYPost.
The second victim inside the venue drove himself to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, according to police officials.
The NYPD said further investigations led them one block away, to the corner of Georgia Avenue and Wortman Avenue, where they encountered a grey Infiniti Sedan, which appeared to be involved in an accident.
According to the NYPost, the two deceased — 36-year-olds, Nicholas Palmer and Novada Bailey — were found inside the Infiniti. One was shot in the head and the other in the face. The third occupant of the car — a 51-year-old man — was shot in the back, chest and arm, and is currently listed in critical condition.
The officials said they were concerned about potential retaliation, but declined to comment on whether the incident was gang-related.
Chief Harrison said an arrest was yet to be made and urged anyone with information to contact the New York Crime Stopper Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or at nypdcrimestoppers.com .
