Usain Bolt Will Wager Gold Medal If Tyreek Hill Puts Super Bowl Ring On The Line For 70m Dash

Jamaican track legend Usain Bolt said he is open to offering up one of his eight Olympic gold medals in a 70-meter race against Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill if he puts his Super Bowl LIV ring on the line. Bolt discussed the possibilities on Peacock’s Dan Patrick Show today and is confident that he can outrun Hill even in a 40-yard (36.5-meter) dash as the wide receiver had initially staked.

Earlier in July, Hill said Bolt was ‘old and washed up’ and couldn’t beat him in 40 yards. The 34-year-old retired sprinter returned to counter Hill’s claims and said he could easily beat Tyreek Hill, wearing sweats and street shoes.

Today, Bolt admitted that he had been contemplating the challenge. “It’s something that I’ve thought about you know but I’m like ugh should I, should I not,” he said.

Patrick then offered up what he thought would be a fair deal, which is to meet Tyreek halfway. “How bout this, he wants 40 and you want a 100, how bout 70?”

Bolt said he was good with that. Patrick, however, felt Hill could possibly take him at 40 meters so 70 meters was a good bet but Bolt insisted he could take the footballer in way less, “I still don’t think he can take me at 40m, even if he gets there, it’s going to be really close.”

Though, he withdrew from the professional sport four years ago after the 2017 World Championships, Bolt said all he would need to do is warm up and just get ready to run to beat Tyreek. “I’ve proved that if I could get in shape, I’ve proved already that if I really warm-up and get ready to go, I can run fast you know what I mean,” he said.

The sportscaster then decided to sweeten the deal.

“Ok this is what I’m suggesting the stakes are okay. A week after the Super Bowl or it could be the Super Bowl weekend, if he’s not playing, you put up one of your gold medals and he puts up his Super Bowl ring,” Patrick said, which simply amused Usain, “Nice, that would be big,” he responded.

After all, he has a whole eight gold medals but he didn’t think Hill would be willing to give up his one and only Super Bowl ring. The track and field star said it was definitely something he’d think about besides he wants a piece of Tyreek Hill: “I’ve said it to him, I texted him, I was like you keep talking, I might just show up.”

In response to the interview today, Hill tweeted, “someone give him some attention”.

In top form, Bolt’s peak speed on record is 27.8 mph at the 2009 World Championships. If the three-time Olympic 100-meter champion is still near or close to peak physical condition it would be an exciting race to see with Hill.

The wide receiver’s top speed, albeit while taking part in a football game and not a track race, is 23.2 mph during Week 2 of the 2016 NFL season. A race with Bolt will depend on whether the Chiefs would allow Hill, who’s heading into his second season of a three-year, $54 million contract, to take part after the 2021 season.
