Spice’s “10”, Vybz Kartel’s “Born Fi Dis” First Week Album Sales Are In

The undisputed Queen of Dancehall Spice has notched her third entry on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart this week with her debut album 10 which was released on August 6.  Meanwhile, the reputed King of Dancehall Vybz Kartel has made his eighth entry on the chart with his new album titled Born Fi Dis, which was also released on the same day.

Spice’s 10 album, which was released by VP Records, opened at No. 6 on the sales and streaming-driven Billboard Reggae Albums chart.  According to data provided to DancehallMag by Billboard’s sales tracker MRC Data, 10 had the equivalent of 1,447 total units of consumption from sales and streaming in the United States in its first week of release, including 851,299 audio streams and 210,005 video streams.  The 15-track album’s total first-week consumption included 676 in pure album sales. 

Also this week, Vybz Kartel’s Born Fi Dis album opened at No. 9 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart with the equivalent of 1,290 total units of consumption from sales and streaming in the United States from its first week of release.  According to MRC Data, the 12 track album had 812,638 audio streams and 182,880 video streams in the US during its first week. Born Fi Dis’ total first-week consumption also included 605 in pure album sales. 

Sizzla‘s On A High album, which was also released on August 6, recorded 71 copies in pure sales during its first week, according to MRC Data.

Seven of the Worl’ Boss’ previous albums have entered the Reggae Albums chart.  They are Of Dons & Divas (2020) which peaked at No. 6, King Of The Dancehall (2016) which peaked at No. 2, Viking (Vybz Is King) (2015) which peaked at No. 3, Reggae Love Songs & Other Things (2014) which peaked at No. 7, Vybz Kartel Roots & Culture (2013) which peaked at No. 6, Kartel Forever: Trilogy (2013) which peaked at No. 11, and Kingston Story (2011) which peaked at No. 7. 

Spice’s Captured Mixtape (2018) had peaked at No. 1 on the Reggae Albums chart, while her So Mi Like EP (2014) peaked at No. 14. 

Reggae legend Bob Marley &The Wailers are No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart for the 84th consecutive week, with Legend — a greatest hits collection first released in May 1984 by Island Records.   The compilation moved 11,182 total units from sales and streaming in the US last week, including 2,533 in pure album sales.

Shaggy’s Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection is at No. 2, followed by Jason Mraz’s Love For The Good at No. 3.

American band Stick Figure moves up this week to No. 4 and 5 with their albums World On Fire and Set In Stone, respectively.

Dancehall superstar Sean Paul is at No. 7 and 8 this week with his Dutty Classics Collection and Trinity albums, respectively.

At No. 10 is Bob Marley & The Wailers with their Gold album.
