Jamaican Singer Dalton Harris Ventures Into Threatre
Jamaican singer and X Factor UK winner Dalton Harris is now taking on theatre.
In an Instagram post on Monday, Dalton announced that he is a cast member in Maltby and Shire’s Broadway Production of Closer Than Ever. The Digicel Rising Star winner shared several photos of himself and castmates on set, and explained his journey to the Broadway stage in the caption.
“We shot this in the middle of a pandemic and man was it a lot of pressure,” he wrote. “Days on set studying material in between breaks and takes. We all had to get tested every two days and had a closed set. Still it was so much fun and was so extremely rewarding.”
The Closer Than Ever Broadway Production comes as a part of BroadwayHD’s digital revival. Closer Than Ever features a quartet of performers as they muse on life topics such as lust, romance, marriage, aging, unrequited love, obsession, and more in an exploration of what it means to be human.
Alongside Dalton Harris are West End stars Lee Mead, Kerry Ellis, and Grace Mouat, whom all Dalton expressed his gratitude to in his caption: “Thanks to this absolutely amazing and talented cast”
BroadwayHD is an on-demand digital streaming media company. Based in New York City, the company records and distributes live theater performances and previously recorded theatrical productions through its platform. Presented in partnership with Ginger Quiff Media, Closer Than Ever will be available to stream worldwide on BroadwayHD from the 23 of September. The streaming presentation aims to signal the resurgence of the U.K.’s theatre scene after being shuttered due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With production spanning only two weeks, the X Factor winner expressed that filming Closer Than Ever was one of the most challenging things he has ever done in his career but also one of the most fulfilling.
“Fun Fact: I took this so seriously I wanted to lose bulk and weight for the character. It was one of the most challenging things I have ever done in my career but also one of the most fulfilling. I wanted to submit to the discipline of Theatre, which has been my first love and introduction to music and stage performance, thanks to my Alma Mater, Edwin Allen High School and it’s Theatre Arts Department.”
In closing Dalton poured out his gratitude to his mom, his agency, the film team, cast members, production staff, and the musical director.
Excited and thrilled by it all, Dalton also added that he will be having a viewing party.
