Iyara Invites Final Submissions For ‘Yaadman Up Inna Farrin’ Mixoff Challenge
Dancehall star Iyara is reminding dancehall fans that the final date for submission for the ‘Yaadman Up Inna Farrin’ Mixoff Challenge is today, August 25th.
“We will not be accepting anymore videos after the 25th of this month, and then we will post the best ten videos on Foota Hype’s IG page. We will then announce the winner on September 1, and then that person will get some sweet back to school money,” Iyara told DancehallMag.
Two weeks ago, Iyara issued an online mixoff challenge on August 10th dubbed the ‘Yaadman Up Inna Farrin’ Mixoff Challenge which will allow young and emerging talented selectors to win US$1,000.
“There’s a lot of youth in Jamaica and across the world who are very talented but nobody don’t really know dem like that, this contest ah go help a lot of youths showcase their talent and while showcasing their talent, they can win US$1,000,” Iyara said at the time.
The Rich and Wealthy singjay is promoting his latest single, Yaadman Up Inna Farrin, a nod to well-documented work ethic of Jamaicans overseas. He was inspired to salute his compatriots in the Diaspora during a visit to the United States last year.
“Everywhere you go in the world, there are Jamaicans who excel. Wi fi jus’ keep pushing for greatness, wi full a talent a yaad but more time wi jus’ sit on it an’ the bigger heads fi let through the real talent through. The real talent will always shine but nuff a get stifle, especially the country and garrison youths,” he said.
For decades, Jamaicans have thrived in areas such as Brixton in the UK, Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx in New York, as well as areas such as Lauderhill in South Florida, Brampton and Scarborough in Toronto.
“Yaadman run foreign hard, once we get opportunities, then we make the most of them, that shows you that all the ghetto youths need is an opportunity and we can excel and show our true potential as Jamaicans,” he said.
Iyara’s real name is Eric Sommers. Born in Portland, he made his stage debut performing alongside Bounty Killer in 2008 at Champions in Action. He gained fame as part of the Alliance Next Generation camp in 2011, and he is known for songs like Never Kill A Friend, Sicka Dan Flu and Tepp Inna Di Road.
