Sha’Carri Richardson Rejects Free Vacay Offer To Jamaica: “Been There, Done That”
After crossing the Prefontaine Classic Women’s 100 metre finish line in last place, the very vocal American sprinter received some shade from women in the music industry and Jamaican Twitter at large but was also welcomed to Jamaica by Takuma Boutique Hotel in Montego Bay.
Riding the wave of Sandals’ gifting athletes premium vacations, owner and managing director of Takuma Boutique Hotel, Delroy Allen offered Richardson a stay at his boutique hotel out of a “spirit of goodwill”. Allen, who extended a complimentary one-week, all-inclusive vacation stay for the American sprinter, told the Jamaica Gleaner that he views Richardson “as a talented but troubled athlete in deep pain.”
Noting that the vacation offer was the Christian thing to do, Allen stated, “I know of the challenges that athletes sometimes face, and it is in the spirit of goodwill for her healing and restoration that I am making this offer.”
However, the very spirited Richardson clapped back in her Instagram Stories yesterday and indicated that she would be rejecting the offer. Sharing a clip of herself rafting in Jamaica on a previous trip, she wrote, “Been there, done that”
In another post, Sha’Carri showcased herself in a mirror selfie, wearing a blue monokini at the Couples Tower Isle Resort in St. Mary and wrote “Loved ittt”.
After placing last in the Prefontaine Classic Women’s 100 metre, the fiery athlete was no calmer in her immediate post-race interview and has continued to be vocal on Twitter.
Today, according to TMZ, Richardson “liked” an offensive tweet about Jamaicans, which read, “Not y’all Jamaicans still talking s— when y’all gotta walk barefoot to your coconut stand everyday for a living.”
TMZ reported, “Whoever is running Sha’Carri’s verified account co-signed the distasteful response … hitting the “like” button on the tweet.”
“It’s worth noting — there’s no telling whether the runner intentionally liked the tweet, accidentally liked it, or if she’s even running her account … but as of this post, it still shows up under the “Likes” tab on her page,” they added.
