Nicki Minaj Says She’d Do A Collab With Dancehall Star Intence
Queen of Rap Nicki Minaj has revealed that she appreciates Dancehall star Intence as an artist and would be open to a collaboration with him.
Minaj, who has previously collaborated with Dancehall artists Mavado, Stylo G, Vybz Kartel, and most recently Skillibeng on the Crocodile Teeth (remix), was speaking to 30,000 of her fans during a Twitter Space hosted by popular ‘stan’ account @HardWhite on Sunday (September 5), where she answered questions about her career and an upcoming album.
When asked about the “theme” of the upcoming project and whether she’ll be debuting a new alter ego, Nicki said, “Well, you’ll know when you know. The thing about an album, is that you’ll know when the f-ck you know, okay?”.
The Moment 4 Life rapper then—once again—declared her love of Dancehall music when several fans in the Space suggested that she should collaborate with Queen of Dancehall Spice and Dancehall popstar Shenseea. “You know I love Dancehall, so let’s see what happens,” she responded.
It was then that Minaj highlighted the fact that Intence was among the Dancehall talents that she recently followed on Instagram after listening to his music. “He (Intence) was like yo ‘we gotta do sumn we gotta work together’ and I was like ‘yea for real’,” Nicki revealed during the discussion, dubbed “Barbie Talk”.
Intence, whose real name is Tashawn Gabbidon, has been a talking point since he first emerged in Dancehall two years ago with his breakout hit Go Hard. That followed a string of other successful singles including Yeng and Through The Gate , his Wounded EP with VP Records, and even Dancehall beefs with Vybz Kartel, selector/producer Foota Hype, and fellow rising deejay Skillibeng.
Skillibeng is thought to have penned the original Crocodile Teeth , released on September 20, 2020, as a diss track, in response to Intence’s Def Loaf-inspired Grimey , which was released four days before. Minaj’s Crocodile Teeth remix would be released later on May 14, 2021, before peaking at No. 100 on the Billboard Hot 100. Ironically, the two Dancehall artists started beefing publicly after Intence shaded Skilli over his numerous collabs with other entertainers.
But, Minaj had nothing but high praise for the controversial artist, whose latest hit song is Yahoo Boyz . Intence’s new dance track, which pays homage to the name given to high-profile scammers in Nigeria, has been the No. 1 song out of Jamaica since its release on July 5.
The Trinidad-born rapper said when she likes an artist like Intence, she becomes interested in who they are as a person and aims to satisfy her interest by watching their interviews and exploring more of their music. According to her, this may result in her following them or maybe not. “I was listening to some of his (Intence) stuff and I was like yea I really f—k with him and then I looked at some of his interviews,” the Barbz Queen said.

She continued, “I always do that, cause if I like an artist, I wanna see what they are like, in their interviews sometimes..and I’ll look and you will surprise at some songs out here, but then I’ll go and see a little more of an artist and i’m like ‘nah’..I don’t wanna follow them, mi nah know”.
“But with some people, I’ll hear their songs and then I’ll look them up a little more and then I’ll be like ‘I really like this person, as a human’. And obviously I’ve followed a lot of Jamaican people cause they’re funny, they’re dope and I f-cking love what they’re doing.”
In addition to Intence, Minaj has recently followed the former Team Spice dance trio – TC, Prettii Prettii and Dancing Rebel, and recording artists Pamputtae, Macka Diamond, and Queenie.
Meanwhile, Dancehall fans on Twitter are already dreaming of a Yahoo Boyz remix with Nicki Minaj. Here are some of their reactions to the Twitter Space.
