“From poverty to owning houses,” the Queen of Dancehall Spice has more shared of her ‘rags to riches’ story and why she’s working so diligently to break the generational curse of being born into poverty.

In an Instagram post today, the So Mi Like It singer, 39, declared herself “blessed!” after an interview with Forbes Magazine, where she revealed how she maintains wealth as an artist and entrepreneur.

Born Grace Hamilton, she watched her mother struggle to feed her and her five siblings, at their home in Old Braeton, Portmore. “I tell my mom that she’s my inspiration because I watched her struggle with all of us. She truly made something out of nothing. My mother would cook one pound of rice and make sure that we all were full. We felt like we had ten pounds of rice! I come from humble beginnings, and I managed to overcome all of the adversity and boss up,” Spice told Forbes.

Motivated by her past, Spice has launched several businesses including her own label, Spice Official Entertainment, a clothing brand Graci Noir, and Faces & Laces , which provides full lace wigs, beauty, skincare, and more.

“My past has inspired them. The fact that I’ve been so poor and I never want to go back there. I am also a mother with two kids and I’m working diligently to break the generational curse of being born into poverty. I’m still working hard to create a bright future for all of us.”

For women seeking to follow in her footsteps, Spice offered some advice.

“Never to take no for an answer. As long as you believe in yourself and your product, go for it—even if others don’t believe in it,” she said. “Two things I live by are prayer and hard work. It doesn’t matter what you have right now. Pray hard, work hard, and you will be successful.”

Spice’s debut album 10  was released on August 6 and later debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
