Popcaan Links With Idris Elba
Dancehall star Popcaan teased that he is teaming up with International actor and musician Idris Elba for a future project.
In several Instagram Story posts, Popcaan shared with his fans snippets of a song that he’s working on. One post showed Elba alongside Popcaan, working on a computer that’s playing a song of him rapping. Based on the teasers the song might be a Dancehall/Hip-hop fusion.
Elba is no stranger to the music scene as he is also a famed rapper, singer and DJ who has collaborated with several Jamaican artists in the past. He recruited Kranium for his 2019 mixtape ‘The Yardie Mixtape’ on the song ‘Stand by Me’ and the ‘Stand by Me’ Dennis Bovell Dub. Elba also worked alongside Wiley, Sean Paul and UK-based Jamaican rapper Stefflon Don for the song Boasty that peaked at No. 11 on the UK charts and is now certified platinum in the UK.
The Unruly Boss also shared two photos of himself, Elba and Nabil Elderkin.
Elderkin is a successful director and photographer who has directed hit music videos like Two Weeks by FKA Twigs, Wild by John Legend ft Gary Clake Jr. and the hit Don’t Start Now by Dua Lipa. Like Elba, Elderkin is no stranger to working with Jamaican culture as he directed the 2014 short film Captured Land. Shot in Port Royal, the film is inspired by the words of Nelson Mandela and the song of the same name by Chronixx.
Popcaan poked fun at Elderkin’s face in the photos, suggesting they were taken before and after smoking.
Popcaan will soon release his fifth studio album, which is so far untitled but he’s already unveiling the project’s first single, Superior .
During a recent interview with the UK-based GRM Daily, Popcaan, without giving away too much, sufficiently set expectations for his new album when he shared, “It is going to be an amazing album. The FIXTAPE was like a warm-up for this album.”
“It’s a different energy and it’s more inspiration. The more I travel, the more inspiration I get. I had some good times whilst I was here, so that will definitely roll out in the music as well.”
