Demarco’s ‘Melody’ First Week Album Sales Are In
Known for his infectious riddims (Stress Free, Shootout, Jambe An) as well as hit songs like Fallen Soldiers, Puppy Tail, Lazy Body, and I Love My Life, Dancehall artist and producer Demarco finally dropped his debut album Melody last week. Released by Ineffable Records, the 16-track album featured Shaggy, Sean Paul, Spice, Konshens, Stephen Marley, and more.
Melody opened with the equivalent of 383 total units of consumption from sales and streaming in the United States in its first week of release, according to data provided to DancehallMag from Billboard’s sales tracker, MRC Data.
That total included 314,668 audio streams, 29,101 video streams, and 117 in pure album sales.
Reggae and Dancehall artist Bugle also released his Toxicity album last week. The 16 track project sold 34 copies in pure album sales during its first week of release in the United States, according to MRC Data.
Demarco and Bugle‘s numbers were not enough to enter the weekly sales and streaming-driven Billboard Reggae Albums chart, which ranks the ten most popular Reggae albums in the US. The albums are ranked based on consumption metrics, measured in equivalent album units. Each unit represents one album sale or 10 individual tracks sold from an album or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription streams from an album via audio or video streams.
On the chart this week, Reggae legend Bob Marley & The Wailers are No. 1 for the 95th consecutive week, with Legend — a greatest hits collection first released in May 1984 by Island Records. The compilation moved 9,835 total units from sales and streaming in the US last week, including 2,890 in pure album sales.
Shaggy’s Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection is at No. 2, followed by Jason Mraz’s Love For The Good at No. 3.
American band Stick Figure are at No. 4 and No. 5 with their World On Fire and Set In Stone albums respectively, while Rebelution is at No. 6 with their Live At Red Rocks album.
Dancehall superstar Sean Paul is at No. 7 and No. 8 with his Dutty Rock and The Trinity albums respectively, followed by Bob Marley & The Wailers at No. 9 with their Gold album, and UB-40 at No. 10 with their Labor Of Love album.
